I guess there should be some stipulations, of course......
But this thread has had over 900 views and only one person tried to object, in a senseless way at that....
That alone has to show this is something that should have some serious thought.
Views doesn't mean anything FYI.... I have a good suggestion up that has almost 4k views but it will probably never be implemented because not many people are actually responding to the thread (like here).

That would be correct if public attention isnt what makes things happen.
If you want more responses you have to make it happen and put in the work. Go to the active list and post it on a few hundred peoples walls, or message it to just as many.
I mean I didnt do that myself, but it would help if I did. I only used the chats and sent it to a few friends on here..
But, think about it. When masses and groups want something to change, what do they do?
They get the news involved, and get attention on it. Then changes have to happen because the true masses know whats going on then and people begin to expect changes..
But, there is one major difference with this. This suggestion would actually keep a lot of people around, and I could easily send out some emails and it would get a lot of people to quickly return.. At the same time it would gross more income for the owners of the site and lead to the possibility of the decline of the site to potentially stop and reverse....
Lets admit it, 15 years ago we had close to 15k active members.. Now we have what, 2k, 2.5k tops?
Another way to bring people back. If someone could pay for a new username they are more likely to get that membership if they don't like their username also.
I'm not sure what your suggestion was, but I'll be sure to check it out and the viability of it.
Hopefully we can get you some support also if the suggestion is good.

do problem with idea ; agree add asterist or something se we and see if we've foed a noa , or perhaps (AKA) meaning also know as
and yes let the mods if not too much work for the few people who change prevent deliberately offensive or profane names when recognized ; any thing that will build the site

I think it would be a good idea. Not everyone is the same person they were when they created their account and we all grow and our opinions change. The only problem that I could see is what if someone stole that previous username and decided to engage in a grift or smear campaign. But what do I know...

Previously used names would have to be impossible to use. If someone changed their name and wanted to change it back, it would have to be done via a mod request.

That would be the whole point of there being a subsection of previously used usernames for each person. You could know why they are on your foe list by seeing their past usernames.
And its not like someone changing their username shouldn't remove them from your foe list. You foe the profile not the username. Your beliefs on the concept are misconceived and towards the wrong thoughts.
It couldn't be something for someone to abuse to get past foe list. That should be impossible.
And honestly, most of the people I know from this site have been here for 15+ years. If they cant be adults and be respectful and responsible, them changing their username to something obscene might just be what the mods and admins need to get them gone. Who knows? Its a sense of acting your age and being a responsible adult.
I also believe that all username changed should have to go through at least mod approval before being finalized, even if being paid for. And that would be the restrictions part on it.

You already cant use a username that is in use. Changing your username most likely wouldn't change that. If they keep the same concept in mind, any previously used username shouldn't be allotted for use. Therefore someone could change their username possibly more than once, but couldn't change it to something previously used, and no one should be able to change their username to a username someone else previously used.
Essentially changing your username should add your previous username to a "no longer can be used" list. You already cant have two people with the same name , its the exact same concept as that..

As I stated above, I believe it shouldn't even be an option at all. You already cant use a username someone else is using, I believe it should be the same concept and once a username is used its add to a "can't be used again" list.
I also believe that all username changed should have to go through at least mod approval before being finalized, even if being paid for. Some people just cant act their age, and lets accept it, some people just have absolutely no respect for others or themselves.

I want to change my username also. But for free.
What if - everyone just gets issued with a random user number which is visible to others and can't be changed. But the username can be changed every so often and of course the system would remember foes etc automatically. And when you first sign up - if you aren't happy with the number they assign you, then keep cycling thru until a number you like pops up then lock that in - forever.

That is essentially what a profile URL is. It identifies the profile on the domain as to who it is.

Go to anyone's profile on here and look at the url bar up top, and it gives you the link to the identifying profile.

That reply was lightning fast. Hey - why not look at my other suggestion about 2 player games.
The response so far, has been underwhelming.
