Birmingham's alright, grew up just outside it (in Lichfield) - it's become really quite nice in the city centre in recent years, and is of course home to the greatest sporting institution in the entire world - Aston Villa Football Club.

All that said, if I could relocate to anywhere in the world, Brum would be fairly low on the list.

Good night out in Brum, though, and it's been the birthplace of my favouritest style of music; that lovely nihilistic techno sound. :)

I went to uni in Birmingham for a couple of years and it wasn't so bad. The accent's not the best and I had to swap chips 'n gravy for chips 'n curry sauce, but no major sacrifice there - the nightlife and the baltis more than made up for that! :)

Oh and seeing Ocean Colour Scene perform a gig at their local was pretty darn cool too!

Hercule Poirot (albeit a fictional detective), Rene Magritte (surrealist painter), and a whole host of other famous Flemish painters, Jean Baptiste "Django" Reinhardt (inspirational guitarist), Georges Remi (better known as Hergé, the creator of "Tin Tin" ), Jacques Brel (singer, songwriter) Georges Simenon (writer), AUDREY HEPBURN even (born in Brussels I believe) and of course let's not forget one of the all time great actors the world has produced, none other than the "Muscles from Brussels" himself - Jean Claude Van Damme!

I beg to differ with you on Magritte - his paintings are some of the most collected and fetch considerable sums of money!

HIS images are widely used in advertising, which means they reach beyond the eye of just "art lovers", so I stick by his inclusion - HE is widely famous!

And as for Brel- he might not be as well known in English speaking counties, but he most definitely is in French speaking ones!

Oh and Audrey Hepburn retained her Belgian citizenship right up until her death, so that makes her, er BELGIAN!

Well if those 20 people were your friends or acquaintances I wouldn't be surprised! - but in a more random group of mixed intellects and interests I'm sure at least one person would.

Anyway we're both going waaay off topic here - and I'm going to be late for work now, so if you want to discuss all things Belgium when I get back, we can! :)

Ok ok. So it's like Winston Churchill going into the ring against George Washington, Charles de Gaulle AND Tin Tin. (who I believe can throw quite a punch, read the books).
