If you're talking about it in the context of the covenant of Abraham it's supposed to be done on the 8th day. One medical study states the infant's resistance to infection is at it's peak on that day.

The only time I talk in religious contexts is when I don't know I'm doing it. No offense.

Well that's fair enough. I completely agree with you baptism should be something an adult makes a choice to do. This one is specifically suposed to be done on day 8 though. So there's no question of when if the reason is that religion.

I remember reading recently about the some of the health benefits of circumcision, especially in regards to HIV. A study was conducted in Africa (as I'm sure you know where there are extreme problems in regards to HIV/AIDS), and found a 70% reduction in the risk of contracting the disease. The link describes an article I read.

Aside from the various religious traditions tied to it, isn't it recognized as a sanitary and health benefit these days?

Only if you never clean it...

Circumcised men have an evolutionary advantage. So yes.

Well, what are "these days"? 1940s, yes. 2000s, it is hotly debated... as evidenced by circumcision's quickly declining rates of prevalence in the US, its last first-world hold-out.

It is getting expensive and the government and alot of insurance companies will no longer cover the cost as it is considered cosmetic not medical necessity so that is Y it has declined in popularity

Well it's just like... does it really matter? Is society going to collapse because American boys don't know what a "real" penis looks like? And on the flip side, is it going to collapse if they do? I don't really see this is a big social issue, lol
I know I'm happy I'm circumcised... well, at the very least I'm not unhappy about it. And most girls I know have always seemed horror-struck at the idea that there are guys out there who
aren't.

Personally, I'd leave it up to the kid whether or not he wanted to be circumcised, and while I am mostly against it I will say this, back a few years ago when I worked in a nursing home I'd perform a procedure on many residents called perineal care (or "peri care" as it was referred to by the staff) in which, essentially, you clean the resident's genitalia, and I can safely say that uncircumcised men smelled horribly (causing me to nearly vomit in one case, this happened after I had been cleaning day-old feces off patients for some time.) as opposed to the circumcised men. It really is a stench unlike anything I have ever smelled.
But most importantly, I don't feel it really matters either way, while I do feel it isn't the right of the parent to make elective decisions on behalf of the child I don't think it's something to really get involved in.

This was a study that was poory carried out, full of half truths and misleading conclusions.
In the study carried out, 47 of the 1,391 uncircumcised men contracted HIV during the two-year study, compared with 22 of the 1,393 circumcised men.
That's hardly convincing evidence.
Besides, that was carried out in AIDS ridden africa, so the same circumstances hardly matter in western culture. Follow up study (found in the related links in the above website):

Man it would be a serious bummer if it wasn't.
Uncircumcised and circumcised look the same anyway when erect, as bellaraphon said. The foreskin only covers the tip when it's flacid.

I'm not trying to be sleazy here or anything, but why on earth do you imagine that it wouldn't be? Precisely what is it that you think would be different about the experience for uncircumcised and circumcised men? Are you under the illusion that the foreskin remains over the glans during erection? Please explain the reasoning behind your question here, because I cannot for the life of me imagine what it is that prompted you to ask it (i.e. why you think it might not be)
Anywaym, please provide a little clarification for me here, because I'm not quite sure what sort of notions about uncircumcised penises you're burdened with. No offence, but you've clearly never been in contact with one, and I can't help but think that your thinking may be being clouded by several incorrect assumptions.
PS, can anybody find that old thread on this subject? There was an extremely good article written on this subject, from a female perspective, that it linked to, and I think that some of our non-penis-weilding readers might benefit from seeing it dispell some (suprisingly prevelant) myths.
