You know, the town with the swallows? Funny thing is, the swallows don't even come to our mission anymore. So all swallows day is good for is getting drunk and listening to cowboy music.

Serious? We're real close, I live in Mission Viejo. One of our cross country workouts is down to the mission. I actually volunteered at the Swallows Parade this year.

Mission Viejo is the third safest city in America. A suburb where nothing particularly interesting happens, but pretty close to the beach and home to the best high school in the area :)

My grandma lives here. Just about the only town I can think of to have been featured in a Looney Tunes episode. If you see Jess Andrews rolling down the street, say hey for me.

My town started as a homestead at the end of the Oregon Trail near the Willamette River. Now it's a bustling town of Mormons, Little Mexicos, and meth houses.

Oh yeah, and the town of approximately 20,000 (I'm not even close to exaggerating) has about 20 banks. I swear our chamber of commerce are all Swiss...

There was a famous cartoon about a cat comming to Capistrano and being humiliated by the swallows. "I came to Capistrano for a swallow and I'm not leaving until I get a swallow." He got one alright; at a nearby bar. (The things those old catroons had ... gosh almighty!)

Ya. Apparently when the Mission was having renovation work done to it, the swallows came during that time and got scared or something, so they stopped coming. They still come to the city tho, just at random places. My wife's parents house has tons of swallows right now.

And MV is a nice place, very "hilly". But I beg to differ, Dana Hill is/was the best HS in the area :P

Wow. That bar is still there "Swallows Inn". It's funny, you see a Mission and then right across the street is a run down cowboy bar. Oh the bathroom inside the bar is amazing. (porn all over the walls). But its kinda awkward when you go in with another dude...

Academically, Mission has been kicking butt for decades. It was the first IB school in Orange County and churns out more diplomas than any school in the area. People actually MOVE from the Capo Valley school district just to come to Mission for academics and IB.

As for sports, well that can be argued now that our football team is going down the tubes, and Dana did just beat us in track ( :( ). But sports come and go. Teachers stay a lot longer.

Mayo Clinic and IBM and Mayo Clinic and Mayo Clinic. Gotta love mother Mayo! we are a pretty diverse small city because of it and there is a lot of history here. its too cold in the winter and really humid in the summer, but there's no place like home.

You're right. Too bad home is either really good or really bad. And from the sound of that weather, it's really bad.

I should also note that the first mayor my town ever had, quit after 2 weeks saying,"This town is un-governable."

It was either that, or Oregon City. Nice to know how many other "Northwesterners" are here.

At least your town has something, all mine has is a little over 100 years of very boring history. That, and the I-5 Interstates straight through it.

Hey, according to some futurists, the entire I-5 corridor will be a huge metropolitan area in 100 or so years.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairfax_County

there's stuff about my county, since my town isn't quite as interesting ):.
As of January 2007, the estimated population of the county is 1,077,000, making it by far the most populous jurisdiction in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is the most populous jurisdiction in the Greater Washington Area and has the highest median household income ($100,318, the first to reach six figures) of any county in the United States, recently surpassing its neighbor, Loudoun County.

Ugh.

Well, in a full century, in the meantime I can enjoy the countryside as it is.
