I'm not gonna make a map or run a tournament for the sake of a medal. If I ever do either it'll be cos I want to, same as anyone else.

what about some maps having more worth than others? so should we vote on medals for mapmaking? or dole out the medals by relative popularity stats?wcaclimbing wrote:Making a map takes months of hard work, which should deserve more than just a medal, in my opinion. yup, this needs to be changed to games created if this were to work. But I'm thinking the real problem is that we are trying to combine apples and oranges into one category. We should have seperate reward systems for game-related medals and contribution-related medals. So keep the current game-related medals the same, but give out "contribution points" for tournament organizers and mapmakers. The contribution points could vary based on the tournament size. (i.e. one contribution point for every tournament game created, 200 contribution points for every map created, or something of the sort).e_i_pi wrote:Not meaning to be a pain in the neck, but I'm running a 17-player league at the moment. A 16 player simple knockout means 15 games set up. My league is going to have 136 games total. So this formula, as it stands won't work out fairlygameplayer wrote: You could have classes based on tournament sizes, for example
Class A= 16-32 players
Class B= 32-48 players
Class C= 48-64 players
Class D= 64-72 players
Class E= 72-128 players
Class F= 128+
And TD's wouldn't even have to check for every tournament, a new requirement when sending in tournament privilege requests would be listing the class size of your tournament
Whats unfair about getting 1 medal for 1 tournament ran? Its all part of the experience of CC!! Competition and rewardwakka wrote:Why not give the tournament medal a nice color ?
1 tournament will give you a bronze medal
10+ will make your medal shiny silver
and 25+(?) is gold
Looks fair enough for me
We aint bitching how hard it is. But map makers and TO's deserve every single medal they get!! If u tried to run a tournament maybe you would understand. Just like u dropped out of my Tournament. Thats very disrespectful and slows down the Tournament experience for everyone. I hope i dont see you in any future tournaments i run!!hwhrhett wrote:i have more to say, but i cant help but feel that map-makers and tourney folks dont want to discuss this, they just want to bitch about how hard it is to run a tourney.
i have alot of respect for all of the map makers and tourney makers. but ima bow out of this discussion for the same reason i dont ever go into the foundry.
consider it done.hulmey wrote: I hope i dont see you in any future tournaments i run!!
This is not the place to discuss it. But i didnt inform you before you applied to join the Tournament that it had a sports team. You and ur team mate took 3 whole days to get into a game and coz of that i gave u a yellow card!. Accumalate 2 yellow cards and u lose 2 points! Its not that hard! Morale of the story is show respect and join your games straight away. Coz of you and your lack of manners ive had to send over 20 pm's!!!!hwhrhett wrote:consider it done.hulmey wrote: I hope i dont see you in any future tournaments i run!!
EDIT: p.s. the reason i dropped out of your tournament is because i inquired if it was neccessary to be a sports fan to play in your sports themed tourney, but it seemed before i started the first game i had already had to inquire with questions several times. excuse me for not knowing what a yellow card means, or have problems remembering the name of some stupid sports team. if it was gonna take that kind of correspondence on every round of the tourney, i probably saved you some trouble.
im sorry that i had to drop from your tourney, and i recognize that alot of hard work goes into such. ive been in tons of tourneys before and ive never dropped one before two days ago. i had no idea that attempting to discuss this matter would bring out such anger. i dont believe i said anything demeaning about tourney organizers, but ill not take away your right to be offended by anything that ive said here. and from now on i wont be joining any tourneys that you create if it is what you want.hulmey wrote:This is not the place to discuss it. it could also be looked as its an honor for anyones map to be excepted and used on this site. map makers should work hard to obtain the REWARD to be able to display and the usage on their map(s). why should they receive medals in addition or medals for each map that is used? Their names are displayed on their work.wcaclimbing wrote:Making a map takes months of hard work, which should deserve more than just a medal, in my opinion. I am doing an NFL tourney right now which is going to take at least 2-4or even maybe 5 months to finish...if not 6
why should that count as 1/3 of a medal?
what,me worry? wrote:you should only receive up to 3 medals for this catagory like every other medal. create 5 maps you got bronze, 10 maps is silver and 20 maps for gold.
cant be handing out medals like candy at halloween
gameplayer wrote:It's hard to find a consistent way to reward tournament organizers due to the wide range of tournament sizes. For example, in the current system, a 16-player single elimination 1v1 tournament scores the same as a 144 all-map iron man event. I don't think it would be fair to give a third of a medal to a large tournament like that which takes a long time and a lot of effort to complete. There probably is a better way to score tournament contributions, but this isn't it.
