See! This kind of high-handed elitist response is just proof of the poor attitude that your silence surrounds. Who are you to declare that your opponents do not "deserve" your response? Who are you to decree that their attempts at communication are somehow not worthy of being called 'talk'? Who made you the high arbiter of the worth of their attempts at dialogue? A 1 for attitude is the absolute maximum that snobbish players like yourself deserve.
owenshooter wrote:what if they don't speak english?
Then it displays poor manners on their part. I mean, would you go to a German site and attempt to play there, knowing that you were unable to communicate with others on the site? People's laziness in learning the language is as much a poor attitude as people who know it but refuse to use it. Both categories deserve attitude ratings of 1.
LOL first you complain about him being elitist and then you turn around and say that everyone who wants to take part in this cool site has to learn english. who's being elitist now?

seriously, don't leave anyone ratings. bring back the old feedback system. then at least you can use your own words and a bit of humour.
also i do like to say to them "gla enjoy" and if they want to have a bit of banter, i'm all for it.

Skittles! wrote:Which is a really poor attitude to take, do you really care so little that people might be trying to communicate with you? Not looking at the chat-box is equivalent to sitting round a game-table with cotton wool stuffed in your ears. If I played you and found out you did that then I'd rate your attitude 1.
Remind me not to play you.
I often forget about the chat feature - or even forget to check it because I may only have five minutes to take turns in multiple games. In doing so, I am exhibiting a negative attitude?
Your analogy about cotton wool is off base. Conquer Club is the equivalent of playing a game around a table where the board stays up for three weeks, but the players come in and out, often just checking in the game room for a minute or two between work/class/family time but nobody else there at the table.

I come here to play risk. "meeting"/talking to people from all over the world is a nice bonus, but you don't have to talk to play well.
yes i have a lot of games going and talking is nice but i play before i talk

This new system allows no explaining. People can rate others all 1's, ruining their 5.0 rating, and be doing it just because they're spiteful of a loss.

people who dont even bother to wish the other player good luck dont deserve to have a 5.0 (=perfect) rating
but i agree with you, people should be allowed to leave an explanation

saying "gl" over and over again is like any other spoken word: You say it too much and it loses all its meaning.
RIP love (the word)

seems like a bit of common sense not to leave people 1s just cause they dont say anything in chat.
im a chatty guy but i have my moments when im in a rush adn dont bother checking chat or maybe, im having a bad day and just dont feel like talking. is it a crime that just because im not in a good mood to talk, that i deserve a 1 for attitude?
if they dont start bitchin when they get bad rolls or when i get good rolls, then they will get a 5. if they want to talk, then i give them a 5 and check talkative and/or friendly. but i dont just hand out 1s cause they didnt say anything.

I would agree here, but i usually give all 5 stars unless they are rude in the chat. Then if they are positive in the chat i will take it one step ferther and check the friendly box.
Well you are just as bad as the players who leave 1 star then. For a player to recieve 5 stars they need to be acceptional.
As for ticking the friendly box. You should tick that anyway. Its the right thing to do lol

Kotaro wrote:Why is is that people feel forced to rate others attitude down because they're silent?
Last I checked, AIM and MSN and facebook were for socializing, and this game was for playing...
Read the instruction page:
* Attitude: Covers behaviour in chat, foul language, sore losers, gracious winners, "great chatters!", whining about luck, etc...
The number of stars given should be based on this scale: 1 = Bad, 2 = Below Average, 3 = Average, 4 = Above Average, 5 = Excellent.
Remember that rating is not a punishment!
That's a way to search the best players to fight with/against them!
Don't use chat if you don't like it! But you can't ask that who loves it dont' give you a 1 star rating in attitude.

If you wish good luck to all and no one answers you, isn't that a bad atitude? I wouldn't rate with a one, but a two, doesn't seem that harsh. We cannot be just mad because that guy gave me a 1 or a 2, maybe that's a sign you must change your position. So, if I give a four to the guy, that doesn't say good luck, I would rate the guy who said good luck with a 5... And the guy that talked some more? The guy that stayed there with you playing RT? There are good and bad ranks, and they all are to be given. Of course you won't give a 1 just because he doesn't talk... 1 is for rude behaviour, constant whining, sore losers, etc, etc...
Sincerely I don't know why you complain. It's very uncommon to see someone with rating below 4 and most of players are fairly overrated.

Yeah, a 2 is probably fair.
After all, if you don't put any effort in, then you can't expect to just get given free stars.

I tried to just give people 3s when they were acceptable, but then I started getting all 1s from people who would join up in new games just to leave me all 1s. So, since I am a whore, I started giving everyone 5s and they started giving me 5s.
The whole rating thing is hilarious.

1. What does 'sticky' mean?
2. Skittles is a dick.
3. Why would I wish everyone GL when in reality I want to destroy their entire army?
4. Why do some people seem to think that only talkative people have a good attitude?
5. Personally I think that the people who reckon that silence = bad attitude are the same sort of dicks that spoil this game by taking it too seriously.
6. Dear Mr Lack, please, please, please can we have an area that ignores points and ratings and scoreboards and all the other extraneous crap that has sod all to do with actually playing a nice, fun boardgame.

I left people all 5's unless they did something really stupid or annoying. Of course now I got my 500 ratings in so I don't leave any more. Before new system, and before medals, I used to leave more serious ratings. Oh well, who cares. This was an amusing thread.
gl all

I agree also. me too is old-fashioned. a little courtesy goes a long way.
I usually give 5 stars, but if you don't have the courtesy to say "hi, gl" and "gg" at the end whether you've won or lost, then i will not give 5 stars and will make the appropriate silent comment.

As a general rule I would give someone 3 on attitude if they said nothing at all after I wished them gl etc.
Three stars in average (not terrible not great).
People often don't have the balls to leave realistic ratings IMHO.

1. a sticky thread is one that stays at the top, no matter if people post in it or not
2. this isnt the thread (or the forum) to say that
3. dunno... its just polite...
4. people rate what they saw in that game, you cant expect then to rate you excellent in attitude when you didnt write anything
5. it depends what you concider "bad rating"! if someone gives you a 1 then yes, if they give you a 3 then no
6. you can just ignore points and ratings if you are not bothered about them
