Long? I play a lot of 1v1 and what it usually boils down to, on most nonconquest maps, is not terribly long.

-Go first
-Get a good drop
-Get good dice

All entirely skill-based, to be sure ;)

 Well, perhaps in your entire 40 games on it they seemed that way, but in my 1000 games on world, on which i win over 70% on 1v1, and over 80% on doubles...id say strategy is very important. One mistake can throw the game. I prefer getting a good drop, dice, and going first, but have won plenty with none of those. Though i suppose I am just lucky, and go first 70% of the time as your theory suggests. Sometimes it is unwinable, but compared to any medium sized map, and most small maps, it is the most fair for 1v1 that there is.

Ive played one person on it on dubs alone and have won something like 85% just against them, and they have actually played the map more than me. For some reason, they just dont get what im doing yet.

In any case, the 1v1 write up wouldnt be long...i tell most of the players anyways, not to say all. dubs is easy too, though not all play it like me. Trips can actually be played a few different ways...I have my preference, but I see some play it differently...sometimes for the better, sometimes not...its hard to really know which is better. Quads is pretty much the same, but changes wildly if you add cards...then its all about the cards.

First, I apologize for using mild sarcasm on the internet. More than often I seem to hear a distinct *whoosh* whenever I see people reading or replying to it.

Of course, strategy is obviously very important in most games. As it happens, I wasn't specifically talking about World 2.1, as it happens there are over 100 other maps that, suprisingly, are not limited to 3 or more players. My point, hidden in there very deeply, was that oftentimes when players get two or even all of the aforementioned, the game is more akin to filling out a sudoku than fighting for survival and conquest.

As for the rest of it, why not make it into a strategy guide for those who are interested in how to be so masterful at World 2.1? ;)

A lot of work has been done thus far...many active topics and guides in the process of being written! And for those who believe themselves unable to write a guide themselves---why not join and review some of the drafts that are up? More eyes reading and thinking about game play and general questions, the better!

Eh no need to apologize to me for sarcasm. I sent a fair enough back. Also, on an indidual basis, there is a lot of luck, and going first, getting a good drop or good dice will in fact decide many of the games. However, over time, strategy will prevail. And, I started my rough draft already for 1v1s. :D

I am happy to help.

My strengths are:

General tactics
Team playing
Canada (20/31 games won)
Mongol Empire (19/20 games won)
USA (44/57 games won)

However, it must be said those wins are almost exclusively team games.

Glad to see some new people getting in there. Things are rolling along, and late-stage drafts are piling up---but we've got many more maps to go!

It seems that so many of these maps are similar, that strategy guides could all be lumped together. A separate guide for simple maps, classic shapes, Europe, Africa, Canada, North America seems very labor intensive and unnecessary. The strategy on maps with no bombardment, no objective and no special bonuses is pretty much identical.

That being said if you want help on a BAmboo Jack guide, you should talk to me and Owen. Although I doubt we want our secrets made public.

There are, and will be, "general guides" (like a general spoils guide, etc), but in addition to those which cover the basics that can be applied to most any map, map-specific guides will still be helpful and serve a purpose. :) Once we get caught up---creating new guides for new maps won't be too difficult.

Progress is being made, I've already finished a guide on Africa for example, BaldAdonis has finished his Classic Arts/Shapes one, it may take a while but the list is getting through.

Now that our benchmark has more or less been set, after a slow start we are starting to pick up some momentum.

For those who haven't been added to the group yet I will sort it later on.

Some geographical maps do differ a lot depending on continent bonuses and such though. But some could certainly be lumped together, Canada for instance is more or less exactly the same as Classic with very similar continents and connections.
