The WWII names represent ESCALATING...

WWI is akin to NO CARDS...

Good idea, but almost right IMO.
Adjacent forts, no cards — ancient times (slow movement, not much tech.)
Chained forts, no cards — Romans in ancient times (good communication + successful road system, not great tech)
Unlimited forts, no cards — early-mid 2nd millennium warfare (ships + good transporation, growing tech)
Adjacent forts, flat rate — ancient jungle warfare; i.e. south american fighting, continental asia in early-mid 2nd millennium
Chained forts, flat rate — Am. Civil War & Victoria times (good movement with newer ships, etc, growing technology)
Unlimited forts, flat rate — Napoleon's Empire (good movement + organization of army, growing technology)
Adjacent forts, escalating — modern jungle warfare; i.e. Vietnam, WWII Continental Asia (not much movement (hard to move), decent tech but environment limits)
Chained forts, escalating — WWI (good movement, growing tanks)
Unlimited forts, escalting — WWII-present (great movement, great technological advances)

In the poll I'd say Sun Tzu 'cos he wrote the book :) If I could pick anyone though, I'd say 2nd Technician Arnold Rimmer BSc SSc of course.

I was wondering about WWI.

Douglas Haig would expend 21 armies taking a single then congratulate himself on a job well done.

Bismark would be going round all the players doing deals and making alliances.

Ludendorff would try to take Asia as a bonus, do quiet well, then hole up in Scandanavia. Later in the game he would pally up to Hitler as his power grew but in the end would not amount to much.

Lmao about haig so true. I always thought that they should have kept John French in charge. As for bismark, I have to point out that he died in 1898, I think you're thinking of the franko-prussian war of 1870-71.

All in all, most of them would suck at risk. Joffre would probably win an escalating game by getting a gift, then then claim it was his brilliance. Petan would never attack, just keep dropping on his partner to keep him alive. Conrad would join only dubs and do what the kaiser told him too.

If I was to play CC as if in WW1... i think i'd choose to be Cecil Lewis, a fighter pilot, and i'd leave the politics to others...

It was a dream, conjecturable as heaven, resembling no life we knew.
We were trained with one object - to kill.
We had only one hope - to live.
When it was over we had to start again.
I do not complain of this.
It was a fine introduction to life

-Cecil Lewis

George Bernard Shaw wrote of Lewis:
"This prince of pilots has had a charmed life in every sense of the word. He is a thinker, a master of words and a bit of a poet."
