Looks like it could be in the Space Quest series.

Later than the fourth one.

Yes and no respectively (although these screenshots actually are from 'later' games).

Nah, I'll give you this one - seems like the rest can't find Forum Games for the time being. ^^

The game in question was Space Quest IV, but as you might remember the fourth game spanned a number of 'sequels'. These screenshots in particular were from Space Quest XII - Vohaul's Revenge II.
"NOW where am I?" you wonder aloud to nonexistent auditory organs. This place sure looks like homey. Hey, wait! This looks just like Xenon! It IS Xenon! It's.. it's.. it's really a pile.

Along with the changes induced by an armed conflict, the city looks different - more modern with a heavy dash of post-disaster seasoning. Casually glancing at the status line you happen to notice that you're in Space Quest XII!

What's happened? Who was that guy with the overdeveloped hair dryer? Why did you let yourself be talked into jumping into some strange shimmering hole? Why are you talking to yourself? These incredibly intriguing questions will quickly be forgotten with barely an electron stirred in that well-armored orb atop your shoulders.

I love those old quest games, especially Space Quest/Leisure Suit Larry for their humour.

That hood is the exact same graphics as the hood for the Banshee from Archon series. So I'm gonna take a wild guess and say Archon IV: Banshee at Home - Spring Cleaning

It rings a bell, but I can't quite place it. Got any hints? Should we be looking at shareware adventure games perchance?

Yup. I can't remember the game's name, but you're a detective in a futuristic New York. If I remember right the country's also ruled by a shadowy dictatorship.

It's like an early version of the Sims, but fun and brilliant.
