That claim by symm always confused me..
The highest star I am able to giveaway is Blue, Maybe it was green (or even red) at the start, but I do not recall ever doing it.

Just says Conquer Gods. That's not much to go on

If it's Conquer Gods, it's usually one of two things: a random drop on login, or a sacrifice. The random drops on login are usually low-level stars; the odds of getting a yellow that way are very low. So most likely you got it through sacrifice.

I don't think I got it from a sacrifice. I have 1 yellow and 1 pink one from years ago.

I did get a second pink one since and it actually says "sacrifice" on it. lol.

1 green .. 4 blue .. 3 yellow .. 0 tournaments to enter with

I won a game, got an orange star, traded it up to cyan and then I traded up a yellow for a blue star.

Me. Haven't seen the tourney pop up lately though. Maybe because there aren't enough people with a red star?

So it looks like you can't trade up past blue. When I attempt to trade a blue star they say, they have no interest in that.
