Since these maps are still being tested and edited, it may change during the season. It would be like removing the Green Moster half way during the season in my opinion.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. coacheberhardt did ask if he could use that map and I okayed it because I felt that, with such a long season, the map would likely be out of Beta long before the season ends. And I figured we could chalk up the changes to "in-season" renovations ... but, in all seriousness, the person most affected by any change would be the manager whose team plays half his/her games on it. So if that's coach's choice, I'm personally okay with that.

I do see your point, though, and will open that question up to a vote across the rest of the league once we have it filled ...

... which reminds me, if you know someone who might be interested, point 'em in this direction! Just 4 teams left! EVERYTHING MUST GO! ;)

sounds good....my only concern is that a beta map may have tactical advantages/disadvantages that someone who plays it all the time would be able to exploit more readily than a visiting team. If the league votes to allow the map, I am cool with that.

thanks for letting me speak my peace!

After checking with the commissioner and with the move to the NL West our home games will be in the Coliseum(Circus Maximus). I'm getting the short fence in left field ready. Moon shots here we come. :D

Thanks--I know it's gonna be a ton of work, but I figured the rotations might liven up what is going to be a very, very long 1v1 tourney!

heatz wrote:i dont care what team, please pick for me

Will do. I'll see if galix is willing to take one of the remaining two teams (Astros or Cardinals) and if so, you'll get the other one. Otherwise, I'll wait until somebody claims one of those teams.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We're pretty close to being full (and might actually have all 30 players if galix wants to stay in with a different team). Still looking for reserves, of course--I'd be terribly naive to think that every single person is going to make it through 162 games, although I certainly hope I'm wrong.

Oh, and I almost forgot: welcome to jwithington, heatz, and Rickster 6546 (and possibly galix)!

OK, we've got a full league--galix has taken over the Cardinals, which puts heatz in charge of the Astros. I may wait another couple of days before requesting tourney privileges, both to allow more reserves to sign up and to give myself a chance to get just a little more organized before the season starts. (I'm almost there--you should see the friggin' spreadsheet I have going--but not quite!)

In the meantime, please double-check your settings in the first post and let me know about any changes ASAP.

I can do that if you really want, but where's the fun in that?

IMO, no problem with someone having beta version of map as his/her home field. in case its not good, well, he/she will play 81 games there, so his/her loss.

Thanks to everyone who responded about the Beta maps issue (and my apologies once again for the flood of private messages). The voting at this point is more than 2 to 1 (15-7) in favor of allowing such maps in play, and there aren't enough potential "no" responses left out there to make a difference (since I'm abstaining from voting), so no changes will be made.

I'm still finalizing schedules and initial games and would like another couple of reserves before we start, but we will get going within the next couple of days--I promise.

You poor Cub fans ... my wife is one of you, so I understand how painful your life can be. ;)

Anyway, I've run out of patience and have decided to request tourney privs so we can start playing games. If we end up needing reserves, I'll start a new thread later.

Just a quick update--I have tourney privs and am randomly selecting game settings and establishing a schedule as we speak. The first 2 series should go out today, unless my work schedule truly interferes and something unexpected comes up (which is always a very real possibility). Expect messages with your game numbers at first, and then I'll update the thread with a whole bunch of info as time permits.

Random settings? I thought it was a pitching rotation? I certainly structured my rotation as such (my #5 is gonna be not so great ;) )

And yeah, my dog is named Wrigley. So...yeah. :)

In each game, I'll randomly choose one of the "pitchers" for that game's settings. Think of it this way--in every matchup, one of the pitchers has a likely advantage. If you send Carlos Zambrano up against Washington's #5 starter (who I couldn't name off the top of my head), you'd expect to win. (Actually, as a Cub fan, you might expect to lose if it's late in the season--my wife is always much more pessimistic after June 1st. But I digress.)

Initially, you have a 50-50 chance of having your settings chosen for a game. But as the season progresses, the more wins your pitcher has, the more likely your settings are to get chosen. Again, thinking of this in real terms, we don't really know who's going to have a great year at the start of the season, but as guys pitch more and more games, we get a much clearer idea of who the good pitchers are that year. (Yes, if I wanted to be TOTALLY "realistic," I'd take past performance into account, but that's a little much. Maybe for MLB 2010. ;))

So, yeah, that's how I'm "randomly" choosing settings.

Work did indeed get in the way earlier today, but I'm hoping to get at least the first series out tonight.

All right, everyone should have gotten a PM with their first set of games. Some of you have 4 games, but most have 3. If you run into any trouble or find any errors in your games, please let me know.

Please note that the second post now contains a list of ongoing games; both the first and second groups are currently shown. The third post will contain standings and will be updated frequently. These sheets are just a small part of the overall tourney spreadsheet, which you can find at this link:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pnnVzIB07sznyhoMT_qfLFw

There, you can see every team's full schedule, rotation, etc. This is the document I'll be updating frequently throughout the year to track every piece of info I need to run the tourney. This thread will receive less frequent updates from me, probably (hopefully!) on a weekly basis. Obviously, I'd like all of you to use this area to post game results.

Now that the first games are out, good luck, and enjoy!

BTW, I see you have an all-star game listed.

I, for one, am INTRIGUED.

Maybe they can make us a big ole Team Battle Royale?

hey geiger,

highlander's LA Angels took 3 of 4 from the A's in our opening series at Arms Race...crazy map!

the A's Vida Blue beat the Angels John Lackey
while Santana, Saunders & Weaver beat Hunter, Odom & Holtzman respectively...
