I can go either way on the numbers v. letter abbreviations in the balkans... if you have room I'd say go with abbreviations since you have elsewhere.

Kaliningrad: better. =D>

Pyrenees: I'd say let France and Spain hit each other. I'm guessing you like the look of the mountains there, so why not leave half of them? Lose the western mountains to open up the attack, but keep th eastern mountains because they really are nice.

I was going to suggest making the map legend bigger by growing the map, but yeti beat me to it.

Benn's post above was #600 for this thread \:D/
A quick thought for when you eventually write the XML... I think you should name abbreviated territs. something like this: Slovakia (svk) and Luxembourg (lux). Maybe you were already planning to do this, but it would be nice to not have to look at the abbreviation key if you don't want to.
And just noticed this, now that Belgium is no longer an abbreviation, it can be removed from the key.

Thanks for the little dance Pep! :-^ :-({|= \:D/ =D> 8-)

With the XML (when I get round to doing it), I think I'll use your suggested notation. I had been thinking of "Lux - Luxembourg", but have decided that your way will look a lot better in the game log ;-)

I've been playing around with the key a lot, and forgot I'd added belgium in as its full name... I've still got some more adjustments to make on the key, so no need to worry abvout it too much yet ;-)

hmm, I just noticed the Fatehrland bonus... it's hard to see, and it's not entirely clear. I'd rather see it included in the regular bonus legend, and just say: Russia & Kaliningrad +1.

So, is Kaliningrad still included in the transcontinental bonus? Seems like if you're going to have the Fatherland +1 it's wouldn't have to be. You could change the Kaliningrad color to something entirely new and somehow stripe Russia, which is technically now a part of two bonuses.

If Kal is still part of that bonus, I just want to make a color-blind plea and note that green/brown are always hard for me.

Update!
  • The most noticeable change may be the green-blue colour swap. Hopefully this helps to make Kaliningrad slightly easier to see for Oaktown and other colourblind fiends (deliberate typo ;-) )
  • I've added in some abbreviations instead of numbers in the Balkans, and in some places have been able to fit the actual country name.
  • The map is now 12 pixels taller, making it 630x500px. This extra height has given the extra space I required to fit the legend/key text in Africa. I also used it to shuffle Greenland up a little, and put a little more space between the edges and Iceland/Crete/Cyprus
  • I've moved the text for the Fatherland bonus right below the bonus legend - does that make it more obvious? I've also changed the wording slightly...
  • The South-West coast of Portugal has been redrawn ready for a sample ocean path from England to Gibraltar
  • I've taken out half the Pyrenees, and made Andorra slightly smaller

Greetings from your fiendish friend. Hehe.

Blue river bordering a Blue region. Why? Is it that hard to change the colour of the region next to the river to avoid any possible confusion?

I thik a different shade on blue will be in order, the current shade blends in to well with te sea.

Im not to hot on the title either! Its 3D effect negaticvly stands out on on the map. Dotn get me wrong its a nice title, just not for this map.

i also like hte style of the mountians but feel they are a little to jagged and unclean atm.

I agree, it's a bit like the title on France, though to a lesser extent.

Perhaps swap Eastern Europe and Hellenic colors...though the Hellenic color may not look very pleasing with that much of it!

don't listen to gimil, I love the mountains! :)

Color yeah, the blue is too much. I like the Benelux color in the legend, maybe give that more love in a larger region?

My only outstanding gameplay concern is that the Fatherland bonus is too easy to miss... you could shorten the mini-map by a few pixels at the top and add the Fatherland info to the legend itself.

I agree, the mountains are great.

I don't mind the blue color, but since it's not very colorblind friendly (fiendly? ;)), I support a color-swap. Perhaps Scandinavia should be switched with Eastern Europe?

We have a friend staying with us for the next few days, but I'll see if I can get some time together to try and sort that bonus text out ;-)

Graphics wise I think the colour is the only stumbing block for the stamp now.
I'm going to put up a poll to see what people think of the mountains and the title to guage opinion before I spend time tweaking them around...

Other: Give this map some stamps.

You just guaranteed it will be at least another week before I stamp it! ;)

I'm rooting for your mountains.
