Why doesn't anyone say the Greek Empire, or the Barbarian empire? What about the Parthian Empire? Seleucid Empire? Carthaginian?
Do people just go off the mainstream ones and not bother with others?

Meh, they are fine, I guess. But I have read mostly about romans and celts. The carthagians are fine, but I never really learned about seleucids or parthians. But I play as them in RTW.

Yeah, how the hell can a group of barbarians build up a society? (As the word empire would imply.)

I would guess that he means the various tribes that emerged in importance after the fall of rome, but they were in no way an "empire"...
and there's nothing wrong with saying Roman instead of Parthian, it's just one's opinion. I personally think the the Seleucid empire has nothing to wow me, mainly because it was just partitioned out of Alexander's accomplishments. The Parthian empire didn't leave large a mark on culture and all that in comparison to how much the Roman empire changed the world. So yeah, there is a reason why everyone likes the "mainstream" ones...

Umm, Barbarian refers to those who live beyond the Alps. Coined by the Romans.

are you kidding they were terrible, not just because they were Nazis, but because hitler was a terrible leader, he made one messup after another and didnt listen to his advisors which eventually lead up to him attacking russia and stalin kicking his ass and like 7 or 8 assasination attempts(some of which where by his own generals) and that eventually leading to the downfall of naziism and his suicide

or it could be that in a few years he had accomplished what no one but Napolean had ever done conquer the whole european continent and his only real "messups" was operation barabosa and sticking with japan by declarin war on america

but he didnt do it in any military fashion at all for most of it, half of europe loved him and let him take control, a quarter were tricked into giveing himpower and the last quartes were either small countries that were overrun in a matter of days or france

and it wasnt really an empire it was more of a genocide against jews gypsies homosexuals and other "impure" people.
btw unless operation barbosa was betraying their alliance with russia, ataking russia was his worst mistake

A couple of corrections, the word barbarian came from the Greeks, it just really means that they are reffering to non-Greeks or non-Hellenistic people, they even reffered to the Romans as Barbarians. As for the Norse, not really an empire but more of a colonizing people. The Greeks only had an empire when Alexander the Great conquered the Persians.

What are people basing their decisions on?
Clothing style is the only thing I can think of that matters, in which case the answer is clear:
the Minoans.
You better believe I have that same dress. And hat.
