Where: France

Why: most europeamnn countries are getting there own maps like britain the benelux and so on and since france is the second alrgest country in europe after russia. I beleive that there should be a map of FRANCE JUST LIKE THE ONE FOR GERMANY.

srry about caps lock at the end. :D

Hmm, alright. I had hoped that the hexagonal structure would make it clear, but I'll try reducing the names a bit.

It is REALLY BORING visually.
It needs more pics/textures/whatever to get the visuals going much better.

Simplicity of style is one of my specific goals for this map: in the past, I've almost always wound up with busy backgrounds or lots of clipart cluttering up the empty space. This time, I'd really like to do a map that's different from those, without all the extra graphical frou-frou.

and the base setup is really confusing....

like for the part PNGW
does that mean that Quartz Landing is the base for Pirates, Ninjas, Ghosts, AND werewolves?

Can you attack the bases on the right side of the screen, also?

The bases are the territories on the right side, in the big black area labelled "Bases". The Quartz Landing is one of the landings. Bases can attack landings (but not vice versa), so the PNGW means that the Quartz Landing can be attacked by the Pirate Base, the Ninja Base, the Ghost Base, or the Werewolf Base.

The bases, on the other hand, can only be bombarded by the Tors. Any Tor can attack any base (but, again, not vice versa). How would you recommend clarifying that in the legend? Or do I just need to move the "Bases" label so it's clearer that it's pointing to the stuff in the black area?

Bad Speler wrote:I agree with Balsiefen, a real island would be more appealing.

Hmm. Getting rid of the hexagons completely would mean I'd have to throw out the current continent structure (plus, some folks like the hexes :) ). On the other hand, maybe I could compromise and keep the countries roughly hexagonal, but make the borders less linear: bumpy, natural-looking borders, that just happen to delineate conveniently interlocking six-sided territories...

There is one thing though, i would suggest making the island smaller, because even without the objective of holding the island, if you have the island you have pretty much won.

Hmm. You think thirty-six territories is too many? (The twelve bases don't really count, since you don't actually need to conquer them.) I don't want the game to be over too quickly, since the neutrals will be starting out with only two armies each (and raising it to three would be no fun, because who wants to waste all their armies conquering neutral territory?).

On the other hand, it's true that no one will start out holding any of them, so you won't begin the game already owning 1/6 (or however many players there are) of the map. What does everyone else thing about that?

Now this is way better than anything I would have come up with. The freeways are a good idea for borders; we could probably use the river as well, but it would be completely impassable, except maybe at bridge points or something.

A problem I had was regions, I'm not sure exactly where we would cut off, that's why I added Malibu and Orange County. However, looking back it seems to me that we could just use the type of area or whatever. The Beach, The Harbor, Downtown, The "Hood", it's workable.

I want to be involved in this project, but i'm no good at drawing, it seems. I only have MS Paint anyway, between you and me, and I guess that's illegal. Plus I am too damn lazy. But I still want to help.

EDIT: Ok, I propose as a maximum that our map be everything in LA County between the 210 and the beach. Everything else is unimportant.

That sounds good because it pleases both

the only thing I thing should be changed is the names of the bases,
I likethe ninja/pirate idea don't like the werewolves/zombies/ghosts

First of all, I love the idea! I love big complicated maps in CC,
and I love Tolkien. As a young adult I read all his works, and
tried to piece together the maps of the different ages myself.

However, doing so I came up with a composite where 1st Age
Beleriand is much further to the south than on Major King's
map, straight west from Eriador and the Shire. The linker
between the 1st and 3rd Age maps is the mountain of Himring
on the 1st Age map (as originally published in the Silmarillion),
which became the island of Himling after the destruction of
Beleriand, that can be found on the map of Middle Earth (as
originally published in the Lord of the Rings), off the coast of
Forlindon, in the top left corner of the map. On most modern
maps of Middle Earth it is missing, here is one that does show
it, plus a map of Beleriand showing it:
http://www.geocities.com/blackcouncil/m ... eriand.JPG
http://www.illustratorworld.com/users/j ... /a2421.jpg

This leads to approximately the following composite (not made
by me, but by somebody else piecing the same puzzle together):
Image
Himring/Himling is the isolated mountain below the arrow
pointing to Angband. However, according to my measurements,
based on the distance of corresponding mountains on both maps,
The Gulf of Lhun should be more to the south, in the right bottom
of the Beleriand map.

Here a map of the entire Tolkien realm, not including Beleriand
(so apparently from the 3rd Age), but showing Himring/Himling
and even a couple more mountains from the Beleriand map as
islands.

Not all too accurate, it seems, but at least Numenor is star-shaped,
as it should be.

I think we should make a map of spocker and it would look a little something like this:

I like Ghosts, I'd rather they be called Mushi but I doubt I'll ever win that argument, especially since Monkeys are already taking M.

The Vampires and Werewolves don't fit their current territories very well, but I don't have a problem with their presence. I liked Underworld & Trinity Blood.

OK, this may not be feasible, but we could have a Streets of LA Map, couldn't we? All the territories are streets or intersections, with regions cut off by the freeways. It could have a gang theme too, rival gangs trying to rule the streets. We could have a bonus system for having certain streets that are especially gang-affiliated, like Normandie or something.

OK couple of things to make it easier to understand...

In the legends - make the TOR bit red (to match the Tors)

In the legends - make the Landing bit grey (to match the landings)

(More necessary for the Tors as they are not as obvious... either that or put a Tor icon onto the map)

Otherwise loving it - it reminds me of "Slay"!!
