Swine flu is just like the normal seasonal flu. Trust me, I've had it. It's not that bad. :]

Have a cousin that had it, he was quarintined for quite awhile. I really don't want to be shut up in my house for who knows when. Already had to do that once this year (bronchitis and mono, 3 weeks out of school and stuck home), so yeah.

Swine Flu
- What a fucking joke - It's just a new strand of influenza (like it's been doing for centuries) and the media and governments have decided to make a massive deal over it. People die from the flu every year, no big deal.
I work at a medical clinic here in Australia, the government has realeased a FREE vaccine over the past month for anyone who wants it, and has been advertising saying that we should all go get it administered. It's a crock of shit. None of the doctors at work actually think it's a good idea, it hasn't been tested properly and they think that it's just a beat up. Plus the amount of vaccine that is been wasted is ridiculous. The vaccines arrive in 5ml bottles, with 0.5ml being the amount per injection, so that's 10 shots per vial. Problem is we have to throw out the vial 24 hours after it's been opened. We've wasted so much of it, then I found out recently that the Australian government purchased 21 MILLION DOSES!!! That is our entire population! Like one of the doctors said, 'Anyone with half a brain won't be getting a shot, its all for the hypocondriacts'
Worrying about getting swine flu is equivalent to worrying about getting cancer or diabetes or erectile dysfunction. You're gonna get it or your not. If you do get it, go and get treated. f*ck some people are stupid

It wasn't a shot, just a nasal spray. So far, no side effects, and the wait wasn't really that long (maybe 15 20 minutes?). The only thing that kind of sucked was the parking. And the only reasons I got it, were;
1. It was free
2. Just a nasal spray (hate needles more then BYU hates Utah)
3. I have already been sick with bronchitis and mono and missed 3 weeks of school and still feeling the effects of mono. I really can't afford to miss anymore of it this semester.
4. I won't get the regular flu shot as I may have gotten the flu
MAYBE once in my life, and that is a big maybe. So it really does not concern me that much.
Also, I thought maybe you had left. Guess not.

I guess I had left, I haven't been here for a long time.
I just had a rant because of the fact I have to deal with it at work daily, and half the time it seems quite evident that people don't need the shot, they're just getting it because they're paranoid or hypocondriacts, etc
In regards to your circumstance and recent history of illness, I would probably put you in the category of 'getting treated', because it sounds like you have been sick - Hope you feel better soon
(also, nasal spray? Hadn't heard of that.. i will look it up)

{Has the flu} Could be swine, don't really care.
Anyone else forced to stay home with a nasty case of the influenza?
It was worse around here about a month ago. One of my RL jobs is as a substitute teacher and the school I would teach at during that time was running with 25-30% absenteeism and I was getting a lot of work with the teachers coming down with the flu too. I got lucky and didn't pick it up then, but have a nasty day ahead of me.... oye.
The media has blown the whole Swine Flu (H1N1) thing out of proportion, but do consider the fact that the flu in any form is one of the world's deadliest viruses, and the most deadly pandemic in recorded history occurred in 1918-1919 because of the flu, the Spanish Influenza. (A form of H1N1) It was responsible for anywhere from 50-100 million people. (3% to 6% of the world population at the time) One in three people world wide were infected.
So it could be worse...

Back in Feburary I got the regular flu. Nothing big cause I've had it before, but it was bad cause I felt like shit. I couldn't do anything for 36 hours and ended up going to the ER(before I knew I had the flu) as I wasn't getting enough air. But the swine flu is all hype. Nothing but the regular flu in a different way.

Must be the first time I've agreed with you, and I fully agree with this post.

I've gotten so sick and tired (no pun intended) of hearing about Swine Flu on the news! I mean seriously! Do they have nothing better to talk about? Maybe that's a good thing though; it means there's no major hurricanes, earth quakes, political scandals, outbreaks of war, etc worth talking about atm...
