Obamacare prepping to ruin everything

New guidelines from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force say that women age 40 to 49 don't need to have routine mammograms anymore and that breast self-exams aren't recommended in general. The group found no evidence that self-exams reduce breast cancer death rates, and it discourages teaching women how to examine themselves.
Immediately all the cancer organizations came out, ridiculed the Task Force, and said "ignore them, they are idiots, you need to check yourself".
This is the beginning of the end. When the US Preventive Services Task Force starts deciding what is and isn't necessary, and then the Obamacare plan being built upon it, soon people will find they are screwed. If your health insurance refuses to cover your breast cancer stuff, because the USPSTF says it's not needed, then you just got killed by the government. Obamacare hasn't even passed yet, and already we are starting to see the signs.

Hmmm...perhaps this is the same task force which is helping us understand how the stimulus money
is saving or creating new jobs in non-existent congressional districts.
I totally trust the Obama administration to reform health care. The government does a much better job than the private sector when it comes to the details.

The USPSTF recommends against routine screening mammography in women aged 40 to 49 years. The decision to start regular, biennial screening mammography before the age of 50 years should be an individual one and take patient context into account, including the patient's values regarding specific benefits and harms. This is a C recommendation."

wait f*ck I'm not even going to bother to reply to this thing. It's full of stupid from the get-go.

Notice the big word? But since your insurance doesn't cover it..... Haven't you ever heard that before? Well this *SHOULD* be covered, but it looks like it's not, so you are screwed.

It appears that the same task force recommended against routine screening for ovarian cancer for
all women back in 2004. I don't know who's behind this Obamacare plan you speak of but I certainly admire his/her/their uncanny ability to plan ahead.

Yeah I heard some politician on TV last night spouting a new report about how Americans WAY overuse mammograms and prostate cancer testing.....This is how you report "you can't get mammograms or prostate cancer tests anymore"
Thank You Dipshits

Maybe I am. But my point is valid and I have experienced it multiple times...
EDIT: It's also a sign of a very week argument if you don't even try to refute it, you just go directly to name calling, so there probably isn't any reason to continue this...

You'll be happy to know that, as of 2008, the task force is officially on the fence regarding screening for prostate cancer (unless you're over 75 in which case you're screwed).

I am merely pointing out that "the decision should be up to the doctor based on the individual's history and genetics" and "SHOULD MEANS NO COVERAGE" is quite the retarded leap to make.
They're saying that routine scans are not a neccesity for women between 40-49 and that it's up to the doctor to decide whether the individual needs a test. It changes "routine scan" with "doctor's decission". This is not hard to grasp.

The scientists have been looking at this for a long time. This is not President Obama screwing with your health care. This is not the insurance lobby trying to take health care away from people. This advice is transparent scientists making recommendations based on data.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33996346/ns/health-cancer/Lol...already refuting my thread. And no, I don't believe them for a minute.
The government panel of doctors and scientists concluded that getting screened for breast cancer so early and so often leads to too many false alarms and unneeded biopsies without substantially improving women's odds of survival.
Too expensive...gotta cut costs....

This has NOTHING TO DO WITH OBAMA!
This has to do with reviewing research and finding that while mammograms have saved the lives of women 40-49, it also resulted in a lot of women going through unnecessary surgaries, having breast removed without need, going through radiation without need, etc. This is HARMFUL. The high numbers of false positives have to do with the density of younger women's breasts. The bottom line dictate in healthcare is to do what causes the least harm. So, the reccomendation is for women
without risk factors, only, that its better to wait. The decision is that this will cause the least overall harm.

Some people tend to focus in solely on President Obama as opposed to focusing on the real problem, which is the increasingly popular idea that the government can do a better job taking care of you than you can. I think luns put it well, if sarcastically.

I, however, like to think that I'm at least more intelligent than President GW Bush.

Intelligence has nothing to do with it. It's about rationality and sadly humans are not rational. At least, a lot of the time they aren't particularly in the choices they make in life.
I mean, evidence has pretty clearly shown that when people pay for their care each time they go to the doctor (as opposed to having insurance and being free to go whenever they want) their choices are irrational and inefficient.

While this may be true, it does not really have anything to do with whether the government is better able to take care of us.
Honestly, typing out the phrase "government is better able to take care of us" fills me with disgust. I'm going to stop typing so I don't start going apeshit.

It totally depends on what you mean with the phrase. is the government better equipped to ensure that citizens take better care of themselves in some areas? I'd say yes.

I don't believe the government does a better job than I, I DO believe the government does a better job that insurance company executives.
And, in a case like this, you act as if this independent panel were "the government", which is pretty silly. Science operates by research from groups of scientists. MANY of those are, yes, funded by the government. However, to be credible, they must do real science.
In this case, it is the science, not some "big brother" government that changed. In fact, the government representative has said people should "keep doing what they are doing".

First of all, I don't agree that the government will do a better job than insurance executives. History does not bear this out.
Second, you're thinking of the lesser of two evils, instead of thinking outside the box and wondering if there other ways to fix healthcare in the United States. I've put forward numerous other ideas in other threads that might be helpful and do not involve vast government power over yet another industry. That's the problem in the United States right now: when we identify a problem, we no longer look to ourselves to fix the problem, we look to the government to fix the problem. And before you say, "We are the government," I urge you to think about the effect you have on your legislatures and president.
