What is infinity ?

I could claim that x / 0 = Image. For that matter, I'd like to see what happens to the CC server if someone with 0 points wins a game.
Then again, I could define a straight line as being a circle with a infinite radius; and therefore that 0.999999999... is 1. This idea could also be expressed by the suggestion that a circle has 1 side, but simultaneously has an infinite number of sides. That would be enough to convince some that Image is 1. However, Image - 1 does not equal 0 (because Image is not a constant)...or is it possible that Image - 1 can equal anything, including Image + 1 if Image is not a constant ?

How do you best define infinity ?

Infinite is undefinable.

Firstly, if someone with 0 points wins a game the maximum points they get from each player is 100, as clearly displayed here http://www.conquerclub.com/public.php?m ... tructions4
Secondly, infinity is a mathematical construct, a concept, and is not a number.
There are many orders of infinity, some bigger than others, often infinitely so.
For example, the set of all real numbers is infinitely large, as there is no end to the numbers. However the set of integers is also infinitely large, and the infinite set of all real numbers is infinitely larger than the infinite set of all integers.
Hope this helps! :D

As well as an infinite number of prime numbers, but obviously there must be more "normal" numbers than prime.

Exactly. There's probably an infinite number of examples, which is why it was a very bad idea to start a thread on a subject that is literally without bounds...

On Conquer Club, infinity is 1---since no one can ever have 0 points, and thus can't go any lower.

In real life, infinity is bananas.

0.999 recurring does equal 1, according to mathematicians anyway.

Remember there are also 2 types of infinity, the one you are talking about I think is called countable infinity (its been a few years since I had this discussion with my teacher)

Heres something to blow your minds out, what is 0/0

(x/y) = (x/1) * (1/y)

Therefore...

(0/0) = (0/1) * (1/0)
= 0 * ∞
=0

Hurr hurr durr.

Infinity is only a concept, not a number.

And while we are at it, we could dicuss what the square root of -1 is.

The square root of -1 is defined as i. No discussion needed!
