I've got WINXP professional either 32-bit or 64-bit, and that SP3 update. Maybe I'm leaving something out...

Anyway, would it be worth it for me to upgrade to windows 7 (ignoring costs)?

I heard Vista was like WinXP but with more eyecandy and more problems and requiring more computer resources for very little in return.

Windows 7 is AMAZING. 50x better than XP 1000x better than Vista. You wont be disapointed, i promise

I'm preparing to change my xp for a 7, I saw how it works at one of my friens puter and it's nice.Doesn't have problems like vista

Same here, 2 1/2 years, no problems with my OS.

I hate re-learning stuff regarding computers. (I've never had to get my computer fixed, because ever problem I had I could fix it without formatting everything or bla bla blah.) I don't like bragging; I'm just saying that I'm good enough dealing with these bastard things, but is Windows 7 really worth it?

Is it really much more convenient, time-saving, and completely god-like that it's worth switching too? With WinXp, I've no problems, because I know what I'm doing with it. With Windows 7, it's all uncharted territory, so please lift the fog of war for me please--if you don't mind.

I never had issues with XP. Switched to vista on a new toshiba lappy because it came installed. Never had problems there other than there was a lot more hard drive needed but I'm still not using 1/4 of the drive so nothing I'm worried about.

I'm typing this on the new family Lenovo G550 P T4300. It has windows7 home premium. It's in the "download this" every ten minutes phase so I can't tell if it's better.

My only issue so far is, I want to do something and the button is in a slightly different spot. Doesn't matter if the new spot is way better. I have to find it because it's not where I blindly look for it by feel. That will be healthy in the long run because it will force me to use my brain and it will get some exercise.

I just purchased a Windows 7 laptop on Thursday. I'm loving it so far (and I was one who liked Vista). The best part about 7 is that you can pin programs to the taskbar to quickly open, but then multiple windows all stack in the same spot and use Aero to preview which window you want to restore. With this, the taskbar does not fill up like in XP and Vista. Both Vista and 7 have the quick-search button in the start menu, which I think is invaluable. It also appears that 7 has greatly improved the file sharing capabilities on a network, but I can't use it on my school network.

Honestly, I don't think it's anything special. I've encountered problems galore so far, and there are some things that irk me that Vista didn't have and Windows 7 did. But making the switch from XP is definitely worth it.

That's an interesting improvement with the toolbar, but alt+tab works fine

Oh with the quick search button... are you talking about WINDOWS (key) + E? Cuz, that's not that great...

I mean, really, is there much of an improvement to make it worth the hassle of switching? (I'm going to have to re-format the drive to make things run smoothly). Perhaps I should be asking on other forums, but I do appreciate the feedback here.

Windows 7 is essentially Vista without all the bugs. I had vista for a but, but there were a lot of problems, especially when I was trying to use my external monitor (it was a laptop). Windows 7 has none of those problems.

Using win 7 now. It's good, if you ever get a new computer it is definitely worth getting. For an upgrade? IDK. I build computers for fun, so I always get my hands on the new stuff, but if you are happy with xp, wait till you get a new PC.

no the search bar is in the start menu. at the bottom, there is a little thing that says:

search programs and files

its pretty good.

I waited over a year before getting vista and have now had it for over 2 years.. several terabytes of programs installed - only software and device bugs afaik..

If it isn´t that different from vista then I´m going to wait another year until I know W7 is perfectly stable and compatible with most software..

the worst thing about vista is the "group by" function inside folders..
has it been fixed in w7 so that you can turn it off permanently even for future folders?
I hate it.. everything else that is annoying in vista can be turned off.
