I must admit I'm almost a music illiterate, but hasn't Yellow by Coldplay become an all-time top song?

Right along wish you were here, one, etc.

I'm a fan of Coldplay though, I might be biased.

What you guys think?

One?

How do you qualify a song being "an all-time top" one?

Coldplay generally gets hated on by Americans. See: "You know how I know you're gay?" joke

Never heard of it. Then again, I rarely bother with what some people try to pass off as music now a days.

I really don't think it's an all-time top song, considering I've never heard of it, though after youtubing it, I have heard it before.

I don't really follow Coldplay, but just so I know what's going on, what makes you think that it is an all-time top song?

Everyone knows that there hasn't been any real music produced since 1983.

Everyone knows that there hasn't been any real music produced since 1827. I still mourn the death of Beethoven.

Sorry to disappoint you, 20 Cent. I can't fully explain it, but Yellow is one of the few song that just grate my nerves. Like nails on a chalkboard, or James Blunt.

you know James Blunt was driving the first Tank into Bosnia during that conflict. he had to have his guitar tied to the side of the tank.

Wtf... it was just a guy walking on a beach and the lyrics were generic as hell... if this is considered a modern classic then I was born in the wrong decade...

I think they said on vh1 storytellers that they don't care much about the lyrics, they care about the chords. I'm an atheist and they mention Jesus, God, Heaven, etc in a lot of their songs, and I don't care much, because I like their sound and it relaxes me and energizes me. You gotta go to a concert. Nobody will call you gay for that. Invite a girl if you're insecure about your sexuality.

But like I said, I'm almost a music illiterate ..

oh wow.

look dude. just today the gorillaz released plastic beach. i am listening to it right now and it's just wonderful. last year, muse came out with "the resistance," quite possibly one of the greatest concept albums in history. so not only is there an entire world of great music still being constantly released, even some of the mainstream stuff is pretty good. (not a majority, not even close, but still).

i genuinely feel bad for you if you limit yourself to things released before 1983. for god sakes, michael jackson came out with Bad in 1987.

automatic for the people. ok computer. fox confessor brings the flood. in the aeroplane over the sea. electro-shock blues. transatlanticism. funeral. f*ck dude, just the mere existence of electric six is enough, on its own, to redeem all music made after 2000.

you've got such a myopic view of music that you're missing out on some really tremendous things. and that really, really sucks. yeah, coldplay is shit. and so is taylor swift, and hannah montana, and nickelback, and daughtry, and garth brooks, and owl city, and pretty much everything on radio. but you gotta broaden your horizons a little bit.

not sure if they still are, but yesterday both npr and the bbc were streaming the entire album for free on their websites. i got my copy via more unscrupulous means though.

FWIW, I dislike Coldplay with a passion, but I don't think I could give a legitimate reason why. Overplayed probably.

And what's this craziness about people in the US not having heard of them? I generally just listen to heavier music and I've still been oversaturated by Coldplay. How did you guys and girls miss it?
