The government isn't the problem...the people are!

Meh, funny cartoons tbh, well made. Shouldn't take any factual relevance from them though.

Government is at its finest a necessary evil.

Private corporations at their finest are unnecessarily greedy. Maybe we should try balance to two to limit their bad parts and expose the good parts???

Some nice finds there. The only one I don't get (and just a portion of it, at that), is this one.

Specifically the arm with "WALL ST." on it, sticking out of the mouth. I was under the impression that your government recently spent billions of dollars to keep many Wall st. businesses afloat. How is that akin to swallowing them whole?

That one confused me too from that sense. The only thing I can come up with is how politicians seem to be demonizing Wall Street and blaming it entirely for the financial collapse, when many of those same politicians had a hand in the collapse as well. Its not clear what they meant though.

Wall Street represents capitalism, so I think that's the image the artist was trying to convey.

That's probably right Neo.

You guys, you are reading too deep into it. It is quite clear that giant communist wolves prefer the taste of Wall Street to that of sacrificial lambs. If I had to guess, I believe Wallstreet would probably taste very similar to bacon and chicken.

I agree with the sentiments but comics are generally not the most eloquent form of argument.

They're incredibly bad, even for political cartoons.

It's basically "LOL GOVERNMENT" repeated six times. Without any nuance or real joke.

Funny thread, Jay

The thing is - sometimes big government is needed depending on the circumstances.

Not even in a time of war? I would want the government doing everything it could to protect the citizens.

How can a corporation which exists in essence only to make money for its onwers/stockholder be to greedy.

The point of making a business is to succeed and become wealthy from it.

The government was intended to protect our rights...now its run like business.

If the US were being invaded you'd have something there. But wars fought overseas, in other countries does not make it a "national interest". Also, that really would not be "big government" as national defense is a given.

You are aware that it is the government which provides national defence? If you have a large military budget, you have a large government.

Eh? What are you on about.

You're the one who said that defence spending doesn't count towards big government.

I said defense spending is a given. You have to have THAT. The other stuff mentioned, not so much.

So defence spending doesn't count towards the size of a government? Thats bull, if you have a large military it means you have a large government. You have the choice of having a small government if you decide to have lower defence spending (like many nations around the world have done). All the parts that make a "large government" are voluntary and can be removed if its decided to.

Try to follow eh? :-s

Defense spending is one fraction of government spending. One that is necessary for obvious reasons. I don't care if the government spends 75% of their budget on defense. The problem arises when they start intruding in our everyday lives. Health care takeover, car dealership takeovers, bank takeovers etc. In other words, when the government moves in to control what once was in the PRIVATE SECTOR we have a problem. A government with that much power is dangerous.
