Well in your opinion and however long you lived, what would be your top 5 video games? Include why if you like, I'm not simply just because I'm lazy.

Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory
Devil May Cry
Call of Duty 2
Battle Field 1942
Halo 2

Starcraft - best RTS ever. An this is coming from a guy who never even managed to get good at it (good enough for multiplayer I mean)
Breath of Fire 2 - purely subjective choice. I started playing it on SNES as a kid, but I couldn't figure out the entrance to that stupid whale

, so I finished it on ZSNES during my freshman year.
PES series - the definition of football. I remember playing PES 3 (or 2, I'm not sure) right before the beginning of the 2004 Euro. Then I went to watch the game and caught myself several time wondering why the player isn't responding to my controls.
Tie Fighter - best space flight sim, ever (X-wing was a bit too slow and targeting system was not as refined). AI may not be the best, but the missions are very well balanced and Hard difficulty setting plus the expansion pack allowed me to play it for years.
Monkey Island/Broken Sword series - Monkey Island has to share the crown of my favorite adventure because of the bloody stupid ending of MI 2. Also, 3D Nico is real hot.

Depends on what you mean by top 5. Most influential? Most fun? Most well made? I'm pretty biased, but here's two lists of mine...
Most Influential Classic Games:
Super Mario 64/Ocarina of Time: Almost single-handedly launched the 3-D adventure game genre. Universally considered two of the greatest games ever created.
Doom: set the benchmark for the first-person shooter genre, and raised the controversy over violence in video games to new heights.
Tetris: Probably the most played and most popular video game in world history. It's the definition of pure, addictive gameplay.
Civilization/Sim City: Grandfathers of modern strategy games, two hugely inflential titles that both started two hugely influential series.
Super Mario Brothers: Largely responsible for saving the video game home console industry, and the best-selling game in history until Wii Sports.
Most Influential Modern Games:
World of Warcraft: The iconic MMO that has probably generated more revenue than any other game ever made.
Wii Sports: Kind of a weird choice... but if the Wii succeeds in broadening the video game market, Wii Sports will be the reason why.
Halo/Goldeneye 007: Two games that brought new life into the now hugely popular FPS genre.
Pokemon Red and Blue: Maybe it's the rose colored shades of youth... but Ash and Pikachu launched a massive franchise that redefined RPGs.
The Sims: another hugely popular simulation game. I'd put Animal Crossing here because I enjoyed it more, but it's not as influential.
Personal Favorites (I've only ever owned N64 consoles)... these are the games that I've spent the most of my time on:
Super Mario 64: The game that made me love video games. This game was massive back in '96.
Pokemon Silver: the first Pokemon game I ever owned... an amazing and long adventure that's still probably the best in the series for its time. Level 100 Feraligatr ftw.
RollerCoaster Tycoon: this game was just amazing. Huge amounts of replay value, and a respectable difficulty level. RCT2 was even better.
Animal Crossing: I never thought I could actually get attached to a video game and its characters until I bought Animal Crossing. This game has so much charm it's unbelievable.
Super Smash Bros. Melee: Just a decent game, until you discover the professional community and all the hidden gameplay elements. I firmly believe that this is the most competitive and most difficult video game in the world.
Also worth mentioning are Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. Objectively I feel that those are two of the greatest games ever created. Check this out:

M.A.X. (I'm telling you...this is the greatest game ever created...with M.A.X. 2 being only slightly less awesome).
Panzer General 2 (does anyone NOT like this game?)
Imperialism 2 (a tremendous game)
The Might and Magic series as a whole (up until #8)...and no, I'm not talking about HEROES of Might and Magic, though that's a spinoff.
The You Don't Know Jack series - some really funny shit there.

I don't have a list yet, but as far as my favorite strategy game goes it has to be advance wars 2, tons of replayability and I still haven't completed everything I"d like too on it.

Pokemon - Talk about that game that literally shaped my childhood. I still occasionally play it to this day. I don't think I ever started with a Pokemon other than Squirtle.
Halo - Best solo campaign I ever played. I have such amazing memories with taht game, as it came out when I was kinda young...the epicness of it all was so enamoring.
Civilization - Love this. Not only is it a great game itself, but it taught me a Hell of a lot about history and geography. Great music too.
Mario Kart (both the N64 version AND the Wii version) - I haven't played any of the other ones, but this is by far the best racing game I've ever played. It's so incredibly fun...even in college.
And the last one is a difficult choice for me. I'd say it's a tie between Warcraft 3 (best real-time strategy I've played [and I've played Starcraft too...I liked Warcraft more though]), Duke Nukem 3D and Mortal Kombat 3.

I don't remember this game perfectly, as we had it when I was young, but I do remember a lot of it. I think I could go into our basement right now and find the keyboard that have the stickers on the "Q" "B" and "P" (I think those were the right letters) keys.

StarCraft- Sequal, after 10 years, is finally coming out.
Halo 2- Better graphics and more weapons than the first, still had a kick ass sword, unlike the 3rd
Total War Series-Can't choose 1. Each one revolutionized the way strategy games that invlovled armies are played.
Assassin's Creed 2- Much improved over the original, with some very nice touches added which include hiding while killing someone, picking up and looting bodies, and diving from tops of towers and churches into the water or bales of hay and coming out unharmed.
Super Smash Brothers for the N64- Many a night spent Falcon punching Jigglypuffs into the unknown reaches of the galaxy.
Mario Kart 64-How many other racing games can you shoot a shell at someone?
Star Wars Battle for Naboo-So many cheat codes, and you can even use the Sith's spaceship.
Dragon's Age Origins-Normally detest such games, but I truly enjoyed it.
Mass Effect 2- Put this one over the original only because of better graohics, and the overall game was just better
Dynasty Warriors 5-Most characters out of all the games, and I have always just enjoyed sending hundreds of enemies flying. Only thing I wished they did, like in Spartan Total Warrior, is that the bodies would not disappear.

Totally. I loved the piano song on Civ 3 modern. I think it was Chopin or else something based on it. How is Civ 4? I suppose 5 is out by now?

My favorite song goes to Ode to Joy from the second one. 4 was great...I especially loved the online play, but my computer was slow so it wasn't its best. The ideas that they introduced in 4 really, really improved it from 3 though (religion, you don't choose a government but policies, etc.).
If I'm not mistaken, it's coming out later this fall. You can guarantee that I'll be getting it. I honestly cannot f****** wait.

And another category: best sports game. It's a split-decision between the Madden series (for Playstation, NOT Xbox. The Xbox version is God awful) and Tony Hawk series.

Or for everyone else in the world, Pro Evo vs FIFA.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not the hugest gamer. I don't have an x-box or play station (of course I know people that do). But that affects my list not having had the budget for games. I do have the WII though. It was cheap enough and I liked the idea of having something for people to play.
1. Guitar hero / Rock Band (But that new DJ game with the turn tables looks better!)
2. Civilization 2 (A classic. Even better than Civ 3)
3. Sim City 3000 - A huge time killer though and probably in need of a new version at this point.
4. Tycoon Coaster - The version I had was fun but at a certain point people stopped going to my park and it fell apart. Never figured out why it was like that. It's fun though if you do a cheat code or something.
5. Madden - Anytime the new ones come out, they are always fun. Possibly the greatest 2 player sports game. Some people rave about the new NBA games. I don't honestly know what is better now.
6. Plants vs. Zombies - Not a ton of replay value. But if you want something that you can play with your little kids and not get tired of it then I totally recommend it. The price is right at $10-20 too.
7. Fifa - I used to play those version 99 to about 03. Some were better than others, but pretty awesome. I would imagine they are cool still although I think they haven't done a good enough job of simulating the toughness of penetrating a defense.
8. Mario Kart (Game Cube Version) - Easily the best version and the best 3 player game out there! The 64 version is good too, but not as good. The new version was a total disappointment. Some add-ons were nice, but the integrity of the game went downhill. Nintendo should be ashamed of themselves for flubbing it.
