I'd have to research their badminton skills before accepting any of them as a doubles partner.

General Discussion!
But anyway, regarding your poll, I hardly even know/care about these generals (obviously I've heard of them, vaguely, but still...) and I doubt they have anything to do with CC, so isn't this thread a candidate for SiB?

Take all the Generals from WW2, give them equal resources,,,
and Rommel would win every time... in more ways than one!

He's the one i would partner with...

It's about who would partner up with you in a doubles battle - it relates to CC in that way. I say it's fine.

What you should do is expand the poll to include not only American generals, but others as well. I'm a bit of a history buff, but I'm pretty sure that unless I was facing Wellington I would want to team up with Napolean.

As a history 'buff' I am sure you are fully cognisant of the fact that Montgomery was not American.

This is true, but there were a lot of very great generals around that aren't mentioned here was all I was trying point out.

He was American when he was successful. Otherwise he was English. :D

And Monty spanked Rommel at second Alamein, so I'd take him in a hearbeat.

I have another nomination: General Anesthesia.

it's amazing what double the men and double the tanks will do for the outcome of a battle...
The overcautious "Lord Montgomery of Alamein" was victorious, but not so easy with even forces...

Bytheway... General Anesthesia never complains about bad moves... so good choice there ;)

Omar Bradley, because he would give one look to Patton and Patton would stop slapping around that poor Pfc tanker getting shells lobbed at him by far superior machines, stand at attention and follow orders. Then he would tell me what a great job Ive been doing.

Patton is overrated!

One reason Monty had double the men and double the tanks was his careful husbanding of his forces. He also lured Rommel into an over aggressive attack. The legitimate criticism of Monty has to do with his cautious pursuit of Rommel which allowed the Germans to regroup in Tunisia - whereas an aggressive pursuit could well have wrapped up the north African theater within a month of second Alamein.

Rommel's generalship has been so overinflated it's not even funny. He has had the best pr of any WW2 general - and although he was an excellent tactician (division level he was great) as an army general he was pretty poor.
