Partly true, it was for rickrolling that took over your browser and was nearly impossible to shut off. That does not appear to be the case here.

when I closed the tab, it kept repeating a pop-up-message. alt-cmd-esc (ctrl-alt-delete on mac) was necessary.

same here. i just cad'ed and shut off firefox, then used session restore and unclicked that tab so it wouldn't open. could seriously be a pain though if i didn't know how to do that.
