Add the abiltity to define and use your favorite maps

Start by making it possible to define which maps one is fond of in their game settings.
Then add a method to select all of those favorites when searching for games.
Next it would be helpful to search for players who have similar favorites.
This would make it easier to find games to join and easier to find team mates to invite.

Just use the find a game function. You can specify which maps you are looking for, what settings etc, and then if there are none, you can create one. All of the points you are asking for are already readily available to you.

there is a template - you just have to check the boxes of what settings you want and hit search

It sounds like you want an add-on or to go back to the ability to create multiple maps at once?
The effort to click the correct settings is rather small, so to me, this seems a waste of programming time and space.

Each time I want to search for a game I must make quite a few selection choices before I can search for what I am interested in. I guess the simplest approach to achieving what I want is to remember what I did last. That way I can search many times for the same thing and only have to change what I am searching for when I choose to do so.
As it is I must be careful or else a search occurs with the wrong choices which in turn means I've wasted my time and have to start all over again. Really, remembering things would be SO handy.

I don't know if this is related, but I would like the ability to save my favorite map settings when I create a game so I don't have to set it each time.. maybe be able to save up to 5 different settings (like Luxembourg 4 person assassin, Quads USA, etc)

There is an add-on for "Saved Searches" which saves all preferences you want BUT maps :-/ Adding maps to it would be awesome. Makes it easier to find the games for really difficult searches such as:
I like to play 4 player games on about ~30 different maps, would be nice to just click one button to look for those, rather than to either:
A. Search by 4 players and Ctrl+click 20 different maps (praying I dont misclick, and repeat this process every day I search)
B. Searching by all 4 player games, and sifting through a bunch of pages to find a map I like
Or even theres a couple maps that I absoultely HATE and dont want to play. would be nice if I just one time had to control+click every map but the ones I hate and save that search, rather than seeing them every time
Definitely not a suggestion that needs to happen right this minute, but it would certainly be a luxury to have
