What are some really good PC video games? I've played all the Wii games I think...and it's the only gaming console I've got. I have my PC hooked to my projector though so I can play games on it. Any good PC games out?

Ditto on CIV. the Total war franchise is excellent (they're turn based strategy games for the campaign map, but when you fight another army it goes into a RTS tactical battle) . If you like a shooter/ RPG try the Fallout games. It depends allot on the type of games you like.

I game ONLY on my PC. Without knowing your genre preferences, here are my favorites. Most are older games, but that just shows they've lasted over time in my "still play very frequently" list (in alphabetical order):

Alpha Centauri
Baldur's Gate I and II
Battle for Wesnoth - I cannot recommend it highly enough
Blood Bowl
Chessmaster 9000
Civilization, in all of it's incarnations
Dungeon Lords
Fantasy Wars
Hearts of Iron II
The entire Heroes of Might and Magic series until 5 (very different than the above)
Icewind Dale I and II
Imperialism II
Masters of Orion II
M.A.X. 2
The entire Might and Magic series until 9 - I cannot recommend it highly enough
Morrowind
Neverwinter Nights
Panzer General II
Shogun: Total War (the only one in the series I cared for)
The College Years
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006 - obviously, newer editions may be even better!
Tournament Texas Hold'em for Windows
Wizardry 8
Warlords III
The entire You Don't Know Jack series is AWESOME - I cannot recommend it highly enough
Zoo Tycoon II

+4 to Civilization. Specifically Civ 4 Beyond the Sword, if you want a fairly recent version with a lot of depth and good diplomatic aspects. They're still working some bugs out of Civ5 and the combat has changed quite drastically, although graphics are much better.

Total War was fun (can't remember which version I played), but it took forever to finish the campaign, and it seemed extremely unpredictable and difficult to plan ahead very well when nations constantly declare war on you out of the blue and heretics endlessly pop up unless you spend troops on suicide missions for the pope (take over a city in the Holy Land only to have the Mongols decimate everything).

If you like racing games, Need for Speed and Burnout Paradise are two of the best in my opinion.

For RTS, there's Starcraft II, which is very enjoyable (besides the stupid characters in the storyline and a cliff hanger ending, although that will probably be resolved with further expansions).

For a fighter airplane game, I like the original HAWX. I've heard the newer one isn't quite as good.

For first-person games, there's always Fallout, Call of Duty, Fable (if you want a button masher), and Mass Effect.

Anyway, those are few of my favorites. Civilization is definitely my all time favorite though.

Did I mention it's free? I've played it through a couple of times and I'm still finding new things. Really a huge amount of content for a free game. Also, it has awesome music.

What kind of game is it - RPG, I presume, from the name? I despise first-person shooters, but I do enjoy RPGs.

+ for Civilization

+ for Total War (Shogun 2 just came out)

+ for Starcraft 2

Half-Life 2 is classic, and Portal 2 comes out next month.

I'd recommend getting a Steam account.

If you like stealth type games give Hitman a try. Hitman 2: Silent Assassin and Hitman: Contracts are the older, more difficult games. Hitman: Blood Money is the newer, easier game. All 3 are fun though.

Also, as said many times, Civilization.
Also, as Woodruff said, Alpha Centauri. It's made by Sid Mier as well, and it's a great game.
Also, as Woodruff also said, Morrowind. It's from like 2004, so the graphics aren't anything to write home about, but it's a badass RPG and has literally tons of mods abailable for it which will infinitely enhance the game. If you have a good setup, you can make Morrowind look like Oblivion, if you're so inclined.
Other than that, I don't really know. Command and Conquer is good, but the newer ones have gotten just silly. Generals was pretty cool though.

Starcraft and Broodwar (never played Starcraft 2, so I can't say much on it).
Totol War Series (Shogun, Medieval, Rome, and Medieval 2 I recommend, as Empire Total War is almost a throwback to Shogun in terms of different units (which there really aren't any, just different names)).
Age of Empires 3 (With a cheat code, you run over hordes of enemies with a monster truck, or without any, you can bombard enemies from out of sight).

It's a 2d platform game. Similar to the first Metroid or Castlevania games, if you've played those on 8-bit nintendo ever...

It was developed by a single japanese guy in 5 years. The game was so good that nintendo actually bought it and sells it as a downloadable game for Wii, although the original PC version is still free.

Here's more info on it: http://cavestory.org/info_about.php

*Ding* We have a winner.

I also spent an ungodly amount of time playing hitman back in the day. I think I managed to get an overall rating of silent assassin in Hitman 2 :D

How so? Aren't the keys the game uses - QWASZX - in the same place as QWERTY? Or is there some other problem?

Most of them are in the same place, except for the z. That one is way off.

#-o

oh, right, z... of course, I wasn't thinking...

Isn't there something you can do to change the mapping of your keyboard temporarily? There should be some kind of software for that, I think...

... with a quick google search, I found this, maybe it helps?

Yeah, same here, game EXCLUSIVELY on PC. My favorite game is Space Empires V by Malfador Machinations. You can get a free demo at malfador.com actually, I just checked. You can't get the demo, but you can buy it online (I got it at the bookstore for $8).
It's really fun, plus it's mod-able, meaning you can EDIT THE GAME ITSELF! i've tried this and added new features to it that really make it interesting.
Also, an older game but extremely fun: Virtual-On by Sega. Made in the 1990s, this is a robot-battle action game. it's more like an arcade game, because it only has 10 levels, and when you win you get on a high score board for best time. Also includes 2player mode. Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyber_Troopers_Virtual-On:_Operation_Moongate
+ for Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2. i played it on the Game Cube of a friend's and it was cool.
Also, Bionicle was a sweet game. It took us a whole weekend non-stop playing to beat the game.
Tough Trucks is my brother's favorite racing game. The damage effects are sweet and you can even paint your truck!
Baja 500 (?) (the number may be incorrect) is another racing game including trucks, quads, and dirt bikes. The tracks are based in Mexico, I believe, thus the name "Baja"
I agree, i've played halo and call of duty and i detest fps games
Super Mario Galaxy, never played, but the previews are awesome! i'm not sure if it came out for PC though
Wall-E was a cool game. Got boring after we beat it though. It was interesting to see how it did(and how it didn't)follow the story line from the Movie.
Most LEGO games are extremely fun. EG: Bionicle, LEGO Racers, LEGO Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc. Not to mention LEGO UNIVERSE! (the new Massively Multiplayer Online Game)

Quite impressive man! #2 is rediculously hard some times, and god forbid you run! Oh, god help you if you run! They will shoot that pizza delivery guy to hell if he dares to run!

But anyway, yeah #2 was my favorite really. Followed by Blood Money, that one just brought in some really cool stuff, although it was pretty easy to get silent assassin on all but the white house mission, which I found online how to do and promptly did it with little trouble. Seems they dumbed it down a bit for the console kiddies, much like the Elder Scrolls series. :(

But, on a positive note, I've heard that they're coming out with a new hitman game! I'm excited to see what it's like.
