... The man gives a great interview.

... But I would find it difficult to cast my vote for the man who destroyed summer football! (he killed the USFL)

I saw wolf blitzer on cnn say today that trump is the top supported candidate amongst the tea partiers. Although I'm 100% sure that this is a total fucking lie on cnn's part(they wish), I was pretty surprised to see them suddenly care what tea partiers thought.
trump = hell no.

In my mind, he's a notch better than Sarah Palin, but I will not support him. I'd support Pawlenty, Christie or Ryan, and that's pretty much it. Otherwise, I'll be voting Libertarian.

Trump would be the most fiscally sensible president in a long time. I saw him on Wolf Shitzer a while back and he was making some decent points regarding the economy as well as things like mountain top removal and moving towards cleaner energy. And while every candidate bullshits about what they would change simply to curry favor, I wouldn't be surprised if he fixed the economy. I mean... he proposed bringing back tariffs, which is a bit ridiculous, but it definitely makes sense. Even like 2 cents on the dollar for every Chinese import would save us billions of dollars a year.

If personal business acumen carries over to government service... well, he's declared bankruptcy like 10 times.

I wasn't aware of that, but it is an excellent point

I would never vote for him in the primary but think he could bring some interesting points to a debate.
I'd love to see a debate between Trump and Obama on how corporations and the economy works. I guess it wouldn't be much of a debate, it'd more of a old-fashioned schooling.
Obviously Trump's other stances on things would probably result in a below average presidency but you couldn't touch the guy on the economy and how it relates to business.

I dunno. This is the new millennium and filing for personal bankruptcy doesn't mean much these days.
http://www.mademan.com/mm/how-many-time ... uptcy.html
For legendary tycoons, Donald Trump tops the list, but how many times has Donald Trump filed for bankruptcy? The 90’s recession wasn’t picky about who it affected. Donald Trump felt the pinch as well. His decision to use high interest bonds to finance the assembly of the Taj Mahal casino caused life to get very stressful for the tycoon.
In 1991, unable to pay a $3.5 billion loan, he declared business bankruptcy. He also came close to filing personal ruin. At the time, his personal debt was estimated to be around $900 million. Due to the bankruptcy, banks and bondholders lost millions. They came to a compromise with Donald Trump. The banks gave him lower interest rates and a longer time frame to repay the debt and Donald Trump gave the investors half the ownership of the Taj Mahal. In mere months the casino was back in business.
Not even a year later, Trump Plaza Hotel folded and Donald had to declare bankruptcy. Again, he worked out a deal where he’d give up 49 percent of the hotel to Citibank and the other lenders and he’d get more time to pay the loan back. It took him two years to repay most of his debt with many sacrifices. He had to give up the Trump Shuttle.
The bankruptcy saga didn’t stop there. In 2004, Donald filed for bankruptcy protection and restructured his debt. He reduced his ownership of Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts to 27 percent and gave bondholders stocks to help lower his debt and then stepped down as CEO. In 2005, things settled down and Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts came out of bankruptcy with a new name, Trump Entertainment Resort Holdings.
Unfortunately the reemergence didn’t last long. On February 17th 2009, Donald Trump filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy with a debt ratio of $50 million in assets to his $500 million in debt. This filing made the third bankruptcy for Trump Enterprises.
So, it's 4 times that he's filed for bankruptcy protection. I wouldn't be surprised if his business plan has included filing for bankruptcy as a personnel fail safe for his risky high interest business loans.
If he couldn't afford to build a casino without these loans, and later filed for bankruptcy giving up 30-50% of the business, then he still came out ahead.
And to echo other people, he does have more debt experience than most.

I think Trump has said that Carter, Bush #43, and Obama were all the worst presidents ever in U.S. history. The guy is an opportunist and I'd never support him. How many times has he declared bankruptcy?

Maybe he's right and that each of those were the worst presidents until the next one came along.... I wouldn't support him in the primary but would more than likely support him in the general if he won the GOP nomination. Better than what we have now.

If you listen to what he says in the video that creepers posted, it's easy to see that he's full of sh*t. I hate it when politicians make statements and don't even try to back those statements up with any facts whatsoever.
beezer wrote:How many times has he declared bankruptcy?
How could anyone in the history of this thread possibly know that?

Are you asking about their strength? What i was saying was that Carter was the worst president in American history until Bush, at which time he took the reigns on that title up until the time that Obama had made enough poor decisions in order to screw things up bad enough where he obtained the title of worst president ever.

.
All politicians are full of sh*t. Some are able to deceive others easier but in the end, they are all the same. Full of empty promises.

I think the dangerous part about Trump would be such an ego at the helm. Its impossible to know how it would go down, but its not difficult to imagine the risk of him ignoring everyone and just doing what he wanted, and well beyond what weve seen in a while. Personally, I still think he is only doing it for publicity. He cant possibly be stupid enough to actually want the job. If he is, we definitely should not elect him.

Ah, the "Anyone who is capable of becoming President should never be allowed to hold the job." position.
I kind of agree.

Maybe if he were a running mate for somebody more viable. Maybe if somebody wanted to declare that he would be sec of com he could be an asset to a campaign.
Also, he keeps saying "I wish he were the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln". What is that about? I'm sorry, but Lincoln was a 1 trick pony. He wasn't that great a president, and he violated the constitution (even though I agree with his moral basis for doing so). He was a man who was in the right place at the right time and knew how to make a speech. that's pretty much all.

There's no way that Obama is the worst president in history. It would be along hard road for anyone to take that title from George W. Bush. He will always be remembered as the worst president. Obama couldn't even make top 5..... top 10 even. There's a whole string of presidents that no one remembers because of their weakness and corruption.
Carter's weak presidency does not translate into the worst presidency up until his time. There were weaker presidents than him, like Grant for example. But at least Carter tried. And unlike Grant, he did not surround himself with corrupt politicians & businessmen.

Lincoln was a very very strong president. He got himself into serious trouble by trusting McClellan for a second time... but he was still a terrific president and clever politician. Can you name the presidents who were elected before and after him? If you can then you know how terrible they were. Lincoln was one of the few leaders of the day who came to get any work done.
Furthermore, he was the Jesus president. He was the only Federal who wanted to completely forgive the South without punishment. If not for him, the war could have started all over again. Like what happened with WWII.... but he forgave Lee and he forgave the South. Thus enabling Lee and the South to forgive the North.
All in all, great president, & great American Hero.

Not saying he wasn't a good president, just that there have been better presidents since. Not all of them, but some, which makes Trumps analogy... not make sense to me.

Not sure what him putting a golf course up has to do with a democratic process. Were you supposed to get a vote on if you wanted it or not?
