[PC] Kill Ratio to Replace Percent Won

Kaskavel wrote:Concise description:- Create an extra stat in player's profile, offering a percentage of won games, including adjustment for how many players participate
Specifics/Details:- If a player wins a 6 player game, his percentage will adjust, just like he won 5 different games. If a player loses 7 games with 7 players, his score adjusts like he lost 1 game with one opponent, etc.
How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:- The idea is that currently, the percentage victory scores on player profiles mean absolute nothing. They are random numbers that cannot get a meaning and create comparisons without studying what kind of games the player is participating. This way, the number, which will naturaly be around 40-60 % for most players, will have a definite objective meaning and 2 players can immediately be compared
[spoiler=OP]Use Kill ratio instead of percent won. Kill ratio take into account the number of players in the game, not just the number of games.
Description: Showing a player's percent games won is misleading since that player could be playing anywhere from 1 to 7 opponents on average, so if this player is equally matched by his opponents he could end up with anywhere from a 13% to 50% win rate. Conversely, a player with a 50% win rate could be demolishing his opponents, or just as good as them. A value that compensates for the typical number of opponents that player faces per game would be much more informative.
Details: The name doesn't have to be "win rate", but whatever it is the point is that you give a number which represents not how often a player wins, but how often this player wins relative to how often he would win were his opponents all exactly as skilled and lucky as himself. So if the player always plays 4-player free-for-all and wins 25% of the time, their win rate would be equal to a player who always plays 1v1 and wins 50% of the time. The math is simple: games_won / games_played * avg_teams_per_game yields 1 if the player is usually equally matched, 0 if the player has never won, and is higher for players who more often outmatch their opponents.
Benefits: This is *not* the same thing as score - score also accounts for opponents' scores, order the games are played in, etc. I believe this number would make the score more meaningful - if a player has a 3.00 "win rate" as calculated above, 500 games, and a score of 2000, then they are probably farming. If they have a 3.00 win rate, 100 games, and a score of 1500, then they are probably very good at what they play. If they have a 1.05 win rate and a score of 2000 they are probably moderately skillful and very persistent. If they have a 1.00 win rate, 50 games played, a score of 1500, and joined two months ago, then chances are they are as good as your average colonel but won't earn major for another year. I could go on, but I think I've made my point - win rate is useful, and is a drop-in replacement for percent won, which is not.
I apologize if this has been suggested before - I tried searching for it, but admittedly I could have tried harder.

I like it.

We already have this, it's called "relative rank" and it's retarded.

Where can I find this? And is it strictly based on percent won vs average opponents, or something else (how is it calculated) ?

Relative rank is something you can see with Map Rank, a Greasemonkey Script. And it is NOT the same thing as what you are suggesting.

I guess you're correct Gus, it's NOT the same...I misunderstood what homeboy wuz suggesting.

Thanks for the clarification. OP edited for clarity, and a rather embarrassing mathematical error.

Nifty idea. I wonder if it could be integrated into Map Rank.

This sounds like something called kill ratio.
For instance, if you play an 8 player game and win but lose a 2 player game, you win percentage is 50%. However, you're kill ratio is 87.5%.
This can be seen using the Map Rank addon. However, I would like to see kill ratio be part of the profile.

yes i've been wondering about something simular too because the winrate means absolutely nothing, people who constantly play only 1v1 or 2v2 or other games where you'd expect 50% winrate are obviously getting a much higher winrate than someone who plays mostly 8 player standard, where you can only expect a 12.5% winrate.

Yes, top players may even get a competition about the top scores in this.
Kill ratio? I knew it would have a name, lol.
The mathematic formula is very simple, this could easily work, and even create a scoreboard if we like.

I like the profile idea and adding a column to the scoreboard. Great idea and seems like it would be simple, too.

very good idea.
It also bugs me when players brag about their win rate and consider players under 50% as bad players. Kill rates on our profiles is just meanless. is the kill ratio in maprank just about the games you won or not though? cause if you kill most guys on the map and you finish second it's pretty lame. I guess it doesn't work like that otherwise it would be silly (other than for terminator games)

anything new about this???
it's simple; just multiply the win rate of a 3 player game by 1.5, a 4 player game win rate by 2 and so on.
just to avoid mixing apples and pears.

i like this, it has also been called relative win % and it would be cool to implement this to cc profile page

This seems like a quick fix that would turn a useless stat that CC generates into a useful stat that CC generates.

I agree.
The games on the web that succeed have very in depth stat trackers for players... CC has always and may always LACK in this area.
This is a great Idea

Unfortunately, it does not seem to get much attention, although it is quite beneficial.

I'm in favour of this suggestion. Everything that adds more detail to the actual skills of players, is a good addition to the site. As mentioned before, win percentage as it is on our current profiles doesn't add that at all.

btw i'd love for Kill Ratio to replace Win % on our profile and be on the scoreboard so we can sort by it.

Yes to this too

I like this idea. Kill ratio is a much better comparison than win ratio.
also, you have to take account of team games, so 2 players team games with 4 teams would be 3:1 ratio and 4 players team games would be 1:1 ratio.
I don't believe the coding to implement this change is hard either.
