I am really interested in learning ninjitsu, but can't find any ninja masters. I need advice tracking some down, I'm in the West coast area of the US, and I am willing to travel 3 hours for lessons

You have to make ten posts in the regular forums before you can post in Ninjutsu but the people there can point you in the right direction..
That said, you'd be better off finding a more practical art to study. The Ninjutsu community is probably the most pretentious martial arts community out there, and the skill set of most practitioners is lacking.
Do yourself a favor if you do pursue this, and start calling it Ninjutsu rather than "ninjitsu". Be prepared to be insulted for both not knowing something, and asking questions about things you don't know...

Basically, there aren't any. There haven't been ninjas for over 200 years. And before they became obsolete (because of guns) they had been in a long period of decline as Samurai took their place and the emperor trimmed their numbers.
Their skills aren't practical anymore. You're better off joining the IDF (they're going to be needing a lot of help) or finding a young Jew who can teach you Krav Maga. They'll teach you how to disarm an attacker who's using any weapon and how to turn his face into a mitten, all within 2 seconds. Seriously, you learn how to pop people's eyeballs out of their skulls and how to rip someone's throat apart with a jab. Plus JewFu is also about stealth and survival. It's better than ninjutsu.

When you learn how to vanish into smoke using some sort of powder substance, be sure to send me an instructional video.

Okay, for like the 20th time, I can't be summoned into threads simply by saying my name X number of times. You're thinking of someone else.

To really learn Ninjitsu, you'd have to be born into a clan of them. They began training their children from the time they could walk, and martial arts was just a small part of it.
Most of the stuff you see and hear is nonsense. My kids were watching "the Three Ninjas" and I remember cracking up at a line where their teacher says something like "A ninja must be empty of all ambition" or some such thing. Void of ambition? They were hired freaking assassins for crying out loud.
My guess is that anyone who claims to be teaching Ninjitsu is a phony.

The only way to become a ninja is to have your entire family killed by them at a young age. After that things just fall into place.

That assassin stuff ended kinda early. The Emperor of Japan pressed the Ninjas into his service rather than worry about who these skilled killers were working for. And the Ninjas themselves happily accepted such high honors as being the Emperor's personal guard. So, being ninjas they worked as hidden bodyguards on the castle grounds. They would work as cooks or gardeners or whatever. That was why most of their weapons, like the Kama, looked so different. They were trained to fight with their work tools or to use weapons that could be easily hidden.

you'll never find a ninja master as the old addage goes "if you see a ninja, he's not really a ninja"
