WWW: Sparta vs. Rome [FULL] Need Reserves

Welcome to the second of (hopefully) many tournaments to come from GhoStedar!

I have decided to hold a tournament to determine that age old question: who would win?
My second installment will pit the mighty Legionary against the deadly Spartiate!

The Roman Legionary was a professional soldier of the Roman army. He underwent especially rigorous training; discipline was the base of the army's success, and the soldiers were relentlessly and constantly trained with weapons and especially with drill — forced marches with full load and in tight formation were frequent. Discipline was important and infractions were heavily punished by the centurions. However, honours, rewards and promotions were frequently awarded to legionaries who distinguished themselves in battle or through exemplary service.

The Spartiate (or Homoioi) were the males of Sparta known to the Spartans as "peers" or "men of equal status". From a young age, male Spartiate were trained for battle and put through grueling challenges intended to craft them into fearless warriors. In battle, they had the reputation of being the best soldiers in Greece, and the strength of Sparta's hoplite forces let the city become the dominant state in Greece throughout much of the Classical period. No other city-state would dare to attack Sparta even though it could only muster a force of about 8000 Spartiate during the zenith of its dominance. - (Sources: Wikipedia)

I'm sure you didn't come here for a history lesson though, so lets get down to the tournament. Freemiums are discouraged from entering because the first two stages require three empty game slots.

This will be a three stage contest for 16 players to see which faction will emerge victorious and who from the winning faction is the supreme warrior of the Grecian Peninsula.
Stage One
Stage One: This will be used to seed the warrior rankings within the army. There will be six, eight-man free-for-alls; three for the Legionary and three for the Spartiate. These games will seed each player from 1-8 in rank for the coming battle with the enemy.

The scoring of the games will be as follows:
  • First: 10 points
  • Second: 8 points
  • Third: 6 points
  • Fourth: 4 points
  • Fifth: 3 points
  • Sixth: 2 points
  • Seventh: 1 point
  • Eighth: 0 points
Stage Two
Stage Two: This is where all the braging rights can be earned for you and your people. The Legionary will be paired up with the Spartiate in a 1v1, best of three elimination round.

The parings will be:
  • #1 vs. #8
  • #2 vs. #7
  • #3 vs. #6
  • #4 vs. #5
  • #5 vs. #4
  • #6 vs. #3
  • #7 vs. #2
  • #8 vs. #1
Once eliminations are made, the warriors left standing will be paired up with another warrior from the enemy until only one team remains standing. If the surviving warrior numbers are uneven, (ex: 2 Legionaries win and 6 Spartiates win) the surviving warriors with less survivors (in this case, the Legionaries ) will have to defeat three opponents one at a time while the surviving Spartiates may not have to fight another round in this stage. In a real war, those who suffer heavier casualties have to fight harder to gain victory, and this war has no retreat. All you can do is hope the warrior standing next to you is as skilled as you are.
Stage Three
Stage Three: The remaining warriors of the team left standing will be placed in a final, winner-takes-all battle royale; nuff said.
Map Settings
Map Settings:
Legionary Home Turf:
Imperium Romanum
  • Automatic
  • Sequential
  • Flat Rate
  • Chained (Rome was famous for the speed of their legion's deployment due to the Roman roads)
  • Fog of War
  • No Round Limit
Spartiate Home Turf:
Ancient Greece
  • Automatic
  • Sequential
  • Flat Rate
  • Adjacent
  • Fog of War
  • No Round Limit
You will only be fighting on your opponent's turf in the 1v1 stage. The higher ranked warrior will fight twice on his own home turf and fight once on his enemy's turf.
Tiebreaker
Tiebreaker: In the event of a tie during the ranking, a single higher finish will be the tie breaker. (Someone who has a fourth, fifth, and sixth place record will seed higher than one with three fifth place finishes even though they both have nine points.)

Should a tie remain, the player with the higher CC rank will finish with the higher seed.

Should the tie still remain, the seeding between the players will be randomly decided.

Aside from Rome not being part of the Grecian Peninsula... I need you to say what map the final is on.

Whatever faction has players left standing, their home turf will be the location of the final. If it comes down to one Spartiate verses one Legionary, then there will be no battle royale because there is no need to find out who the strongest of the winning side is.

Yes. I don't know if this was a question but the tournament is still moving. We are moving into round 2.4 now.
