I was wondering what their net worth is. According to Forbes it's just $1.5 billion in total (for the whole family). Even though it is said that they were estimated to be worth $6 billion in 1850. I would find it hard to believe that such shrewd business family would lose such an incredible amount of value during the last century and a half. It's even rumoured that around the 1850's that they owned half of the world finance. But I don't know if that is confirmed financially.

Are you sure that $6B isn't already adjusted for inflation?

Also, they've sold or incorporated lots of their property and capital.

Hmmmmm...... could it be that they are sooo rich that they own the list? No, for real? Or perhaps their wealth is in debts owed to them? In that sense they could have a billion and still own the planet.

And their wealth has been diluted over being spread out over a large number of descendants, many of which probably just piss the money away on going to Peru and comparing cocaine quality with that from South Florida.
