With temperatures well below freezing early Saturday, the churches must obey a city rule requiring faith-based shelters to be open at least five days a week -- or not at all.

I was not able to view the clip, , but the title says they have to provide space for at least 5 days or close ... not just that they have to close. This might actually make sense.

Having a place for homeless people to go for only a few days a week just is not that helpful. They NEED fulltime places. NYC is under legal mandates to provide housing for the homeless. I would say that the churches are making the problem look less severe than it really is, by helping the homeless only a few days.

I wish I could see that video, though.

Yeah there doesn't seem to be enough information there to really know what is going on. I'd say on the surface that whenever the churches want to let people in then great, but there may be something else to it as PLAYER suggests. The video didn't really do anything but tell about the conditions and talk about the Emergency response teams.

If the church can only afford to operate a few days a week, its better than nothing. Making a rule dictating how that you have to be open at least 5 nights out of the week is stupid. Wouldn't you think that every little bit helps?

My favorite is how at the end of that clip, the news cast started talking about thanksgiving dinner... MMMMM Yummm...

The one guy said "I know who's cooking my turkey!!! :P "

lame.

Isn't local network news supposed to be vapid?
