I'm just curious about this new term 'trolling'. Can someone tell me what it is exactly. I'm being quite serious (which is unusual for me), I just started hearing this term and would like to know what it is. Also, is there a rule against it, (answer the second if your a mod of know for sure, would be nice to get an accurate answer)?
Thanks,
George : )

As far as I understand it, Trolling is someone of a high rank only playing newbies because they are (or are perceived to be) easier to beat. The problem is that if the newbies are always getting pounded by players with lots of experience before they learn how the games and the site works they will be turned off from the game and will not play or buy a membership.
The difficulty with this is that sometimes newbies join your games, so you are not trolling.
By the way, I could be way off... so if I am, correct me!

okay this above is called farming.
You really should go read the guidelines there is a rather large section just about trolling.
Trolling is the intentional attempt to cause chaos.

There's a link on every forum page to the Community Guidelines, including on the Compose a Post page.

Hey Night Strike could you give us a link anyway? It would be a lot easier to provide a link rather than argue back and forth and coming off as a stubborn 13 yr old. Thanks bud.

It's not a new term, it's been around for a while.
Here is a simple search that you could have done yourself:
+Troll +Guidelines topic searchThe mid-section of that post deals with trolling.

as per guidlelines for those to "lazy" to look it up
Trolling is the
intentional attempt to cause chaos.
* Posting controversial or irrelevant messages or topics with the intent to provoke someone else into a pissing match, emotional response, flame fest or to generally disrupt the discussion, community or user is not cool. Prompting or provoking others to do that is just as bad.
* Don't provoke others into a flame fest, this won't be tolerated.
* Don't ever post personal information of other users. Anywhere. Ever. Even if they already posted it somewhere else. This includes posting personal information about a CC user on another site, you will be held accountable here.
* Don't de-rail topics, don't spam them, don't flame them, don't bait them, don't drive a topic into a negative spiral.
* Don't flog a dead horse. If a discussion is over, it's over. Screaming louder, more or in a different place is not going to change the answer already given. If you think the answer was wrong, PM an Admin. If you think the admin is wrong, then this probably isn't the right community for you.
* If someone is trolling or baiting, don't fall for it. The best way to piss off a troll is to ignore them. They are just sad little children who don't get enough attention from their mothers and so are trying to get it from you. Ignore them and it will hurt more than any "zing" you might come back with.
There is little that is more annoying than a troll. This will get you removed from the CC community quicker than almost anything else.

<!-- BEGIN Example of trolling -->Georgerx7di wrote:I'm just curious about this new term 'trolling'. Can someone tell me what it is exactly.
Trust a n00b not to know what trolling is. He probably plays Warcraft while his mum yells at him to have a shower and go to bed. I don't know why the rest of us have to put up with the little kiddies round here, they should all get forum bans so we don't have to listen to their crap
<!-- END Example of trolling -->Basically, it's baiting other people, directly or indirectly, to get them to flame you so that:
A) They get a warning
B) The topic is derailed
C) A flame war starts
D) All of the above
There's two likely origins. The first is that it is from the term "trawling", ie - dredging up a bunch of crap. The second is from DnD, where the only way you could destroy a troll was to burn its corpse, ie - trolls attract flames.

Sure, in a definition it's acceptable, but as soon as
I tell them that,
I'm the problem.

Trolling is the first thing trolls will accuse someone of, when they are caught in the act. At least, the trolls who can dish it out, but can't take it. It's kind of funny, really.

Really, to believe this, you'd have to believe that he couldn't click the guidelines, he's never been on an internet forum before, and he doesn't know how to use Google. Sure signs of trolling include feigning inconceivable amounts of ignorance.

This is exactly what trolling is, why is there need for further discussion?
