Man, this whole permabanning thing is so retarded.

Maximum this should be a one week ban. A month would be really harsh.

The existing system of escalating bannings makes the decision to ban someone, along with the penalty, appear really petty and arbitrary when a permaban comes along.

DM wasn't doing anything harmful or serious. He didn't bring in any personal information and was simply flippant in tone. I really can't see how this sort of thing is so serious as a permanent banning. The quality of the content the guy generated was so high that to shun him is to deprive ourselves.

I just don't see how anyone can call this a "community" when the most consistently valuable content generators are treated as a problem and illiterate and insane postings (see the conspiracy theorists) are treated as sacrosanct. There should be a place here for all of us.

Dunno if I totally agree Dave (DaGip got banned and he was a bit of a conspiracy nut) but I will say that they could have found a better post than these to ban him for.
