I feel the current system is good: let them vote on it. So far they don't want in, so no need to force them in.

Edit: And I'd be for it if they voted yes, so I guess I'm for it in general.

I don't see any reason not to be for Statehood. It makes me mad that this health care bill will effect Puerto Rico and yet they do not have any say in it at all.

It's their own choice. Year after year the Puerto Rican legislature turns down the offer to become a state, so year after year they have no official say in the goings-on of Washington.

Excuse me Jimbo but it is the Puerto Ricans themselves who continuously reject statehood, every few years or so they have a vote deciding whether they wish to remain a territory, become independent, or become a state. Big f*cking surprise they always choose to remain a territory rather than becoming a state, that way they continue to reap all the benefits of being U.S. citizens and pay none of the costs. I say it is high time we put this to a national referendum and decide whether or not we wish them to allow them to continue to suckle off of America's teat, and afterwards doing nothing beneficial, or if we wish to finally cut loose the dead wood. Or perhaps we should continue to allow this needless drain on our economy?

What I meannt to say is that I don't see any reason why Puerto Ricans would be against there own Statehood. I have read about the pro cons of it and the only con that I found reasonable is there social events such as the olympics. They would then be included with the United States.

It is unfair they are treated that way. D. D. has to pay taxes to our government but not Puerto Rico. Does anyone know if there is anyone here from Puerto Rico to give us there opinion on this.

I agree with neanderpaul. Time for the rest of the country to decide - Statehood, or Drop Them. Well no, first, let's put it to the Puerto Ricans. Join us, or leave us - no more "territorial" status. Then we'll see what they want. And if they want to join us, fine. And if not, doubly fine. But no more free ride.

Let's force them to be bound by this poll.

I second...er, Third this...
Make them vote for statehood or independence, no territorial option.

Great, guys, now don't forget to write your local Congressmen and Senator a letter about this urgent issue.

From what i understand they have a pretty sweet deal right now. No taxes, military protection and U.S. citizenship.

My point exactly, time to kick these freeloaders to the curb.
