But I do like the intense white - it puts the focus more heavily on the stations.

I took inspiration from rail africa. I thought similar "army huts" (as opposed to army circles) would work here...

i think you should try to draw buildings for stations, like you did with cities.
Train stations are different, it's true, but usually they have a common structure that is really recognizable.
Here some examples to help your creativity, then if draw them so small becomes a problem, just throw me a PM. ;)

Hmm. It seems to me the most dominating common feature of rail stations is a large clock on display. Perhaps I could work something out with that...

Sorry I haven't had time to update... been busy with x-mas stuff so I probably won't be able to work on this until after x-mas.

Well... just when I said I wouldn't have time to update - I managed to have some free time today so I finished my station design. I'm quite satisfied with the result, I think they fit the map nicely.

They're ok. I kind of liked the last version more. If you stick with this version I'd make them a little smaller and I'd definitely mute the colors, or change the colors entirely. Right they look really bright and happy and kind of clash with the rest of the map.

Yeah the colours are temporary, they're easy enough to change with the hue/saturation adjustment... I haven't decided on the colours yet so I just made a simple red-yellow-blue contrast.

I like what you have a lot. I think you should add that intense white glow like you had before, though:

I'd go even darker and more muted with the colors on the stations.

Your feedbacks negate each other, so I'm going to do neither.

;)

(seriously though... glowy things don't really suit the style of the map, and muting the colours further would just bring colourblind problems.)

Sorry I think I've been a little unclear. When I said mute the colors even further I only meant of the stations. Specifically only on the station roof.

I know what you meant. The stations need to be colourblind friendly too.

doesn't mean they have to look like they're out of a kids coloring book either.

Sorry but when I think WWI era Russia I don't associate the colors lime green, electric blue, and sky blue, especially when the rest of your map sticks to neutral earth tones. The colors stick out like a sore thumb (especially that awful lime green). Like a kid took a crayon and drew all over the top of a really cool map.

I'm not a huge fan of those stations... do you have something that matches the style of the cities?

TBK, I see your point, but it's real hard trying to find colours that look distinguishable with the colour blind filter on. The CC guidelines demand every map to be cb friendly... so function needs to trump form here. Anyway, I'll see if I can tweak them into more broken hues, within the limitations I have to work with...

IH, the cities will be redrawn. They're just placeholder doodles really, I don't really see why you think they look so great. Also, the cities and stations are fundamentally different in function - stations need to accommodate troop numbers, cities don't....

Don't re-draw them. I'm with IH I think the cities look great. It's the stations that should be re-drawn to look more like the cities.
