Dallas wins 23-17 over New Orleans in a tight battle in the NFC Divisional playoffs...Highlander takes a 17-round win in the 4th quarter to secure the victory on Arms Race!

Green Bay vs. St. Louis and Cincinnati vs. Houston have no score to this point.

not sure how i lost if i won 3 out of 5

why even have the special team game if it means nothing

thanks for wasting my time :0)

second time in this tourney i won 3 out of 5 games and lost the round

should have just told me "it doesnt matter if you win or lose, only if you get lucky and win really quickly"

and i wouldnt have joined... these stupid 1vs1 tournies are a rank hit...
Look on my works ye mighty and despair...

sorry you are disappointed with the loss Krapht, but this tournament was never set up as a straight-on best-of-series event. In many cases the special teams map decides the game, as was the case in this one.

You won the map in the end, but HA outscored you 6-3 because he played with more awareness of the scoring rules. By extended the game to extra rounds and beating more neutrals, he was able to manage the points needed for the win. If you had fought back in the battle for the neutral territories and won that category you would have left with a win or at the very least overtime.

Many of my tourneys are set up on a series principle with some kind of scoring formula attached. I feel it gives a better battle in the 1 vs. 1 matchups, while giving it a fun twist that veers away from the simple best-of-7 tourneys that are commonly found on the thread.

If it's close 3 of 5 OR 4 of 7, then the losing player will have some chance at the win. If you win 4 of 5 OR 5 of 7 you are pretty much guaranteed a victory. Just a matter of how the rules line up.

And yes, 1 vs. 1 play is not the way to pile up rank...but my tourneys are simply meant to be a fun diversion that mimic the real sport (at least as closely as whatever formula I dream up allows) :D

Don't worry about sore losers. This is the best tournament I've been in. The games mean a lot more than if it was straight win/lose. You get the chance to fight to extend a game and close games don't count the same as blowouts, which makes total sense. The special teams map takes strategy to get more points, not just to win. The only thing I would change with that is stop the neutral count at round 10, the winner can normally get more neutrals if they remember on their last turn.

Btw, we need an all Texas Super Bowl. Lets go Cowboys and Texans!!

thanks sportsgod...I obviously completely agree and enjoy tournaments more when the strategy is based more than on simply winning the map head-to-head...it brings a whole new aspect into play.

Also, the neutrals and bonuses are capped at round 11, although it does seem that the winning player can often get those if they remember about it on their last turn or two. Perhaps an earlier cap for those next season -- round 8 when most games are still in doubt somewhat???

And on the Super Bowl...we need a rematch of Super Bowl XII, so my Broncos can avenge their real-life 27-10 loss to the Cowboys...go Orange Crush!!!

Oh I thought it was 15 for some reason, yeah 8 would probably be better. Those few rounds make a big difference. Explain the 15+ landmass/bonus thing to me, I don't think I get it.

Here you go sportsguy...important to know especially in the playoffs.

The 15+ bonuses adds up any territory bonuses you may get in a round, along with any of the (+2) owned card bonuses you acquire....hit 15 total and you get the FG.

Accumulation is capped after 11 rounds...same with the battle for neutrals.

I must say I did not think I was still in the tourney--I thought I lost. I am elated to say the least to see I somehow got lucky. I tried everything I could to get as many points as possible, but still thought I lost. Wow lucky me.

Also, nice to see the AFC is routing for Dallas to go to the superbowl--I bet Cincinnati is also routing for Dallas

Yep HA...you played well...the boxscore for your game is up...

Getting that quick 6-round win was key (those 14-point quarters are killers), and you played well in a losing effort on the special teams map and neutralized him by extending the game, then scored some of the bonus catagories.

Re: NFL SEASON 1 vs. 1 tourney Divisional playoffs ongoing

Postby flexmaster33 on Sat Jan 16, 2010 1:34 pm

Playoff brackets are updated...looks like it will be #1 Green Bay vs. #2 Dallas in the NFC (anyone remember the mid-90s???)

In the AFC...Houston and Cincy are locked in a tight battle with the Texans holding a slim 3-0 first quarter lead at home. Denver awaits.

Also, a note to all that enjoyed this tourney...I have a beefed up version that will replicate the NCAA playoffs (either the FCS or what the BCS should be)...it will be a mix of doubles and singles play with two coaches working together per team...still in the early stages of planning, but keep an eye out over the next 3-4 weeks.

cincy and houston games are complete. Add up the scores and let us know who moves on. I think I lost unfortunately. Good games though.

Congrats to sportsgod24 for reaching the Super Bowl and earning the AFC's Lamar Hunt trophy. The Texans entertain the home crowd by coming back from an early deficit to beat Denver 27-17, clinching the victory with a 14-3 run in the third quarter. The win caps a perfect 10-0 season for the Texans on their USA map home turf.

Super Bowl
Houston (14-4) vs. Green Bay (16-2)
Congrats to sportsgod24 and dowian2 for making it to the Super Bowl championship game. Those maps have gone out, so cheer on your favorite...quite a feat with the two finalists going a combined 30-6 (.833) through the regular season and playoffs.

So, it looks like Houston did not get its first Super Bowl win. I got beat on both home maps (10-1 now), even with a damn good drop in one (I thought it would be a 6 round win easy, but then the dice hit).

Congrats to the Packers and Dowian2.

Thanks for the tourney, flex. Easily the most fun I've had on CC :)

Save me a spot for the Packers to repeat in 2010! :)

Yes, defending champions always get a reserved spot to defend their title in my sports-season tournaments.

Congrats...man, you guys played that one quick :)

good season all, I'll update the final stats and send the report to the tourney directors for medals and such.

Re: NFL SEASON 1 vs. 1 tourney [winner DOWIAN2] Green Bay

Postby flexmaster33 on Fri Jan 22, 2010 2:25 am

Well, it was a thrilling Super Bowl, as sportsgod and dowian matched up in real time with Green Bay (dowian2) coming out on top 21-19 after winning the fourth-quarter map.

Houston put up a fight with a 10-0 run in the third quarter before the Packers found the end zone for a third time in the final minutes to secure the win.

Thanks to all who played and congrats to our champion dowian2...look for this tourney again next season. Also, I'm working on another football tourney that should go up within the next few weeks :)
