i don't know if anyone else had this idea before, but i thought about something like Quick Conquering.

The idea is that you only have a couple of minutes for each turn.
Maybe there could be time limit of maybe 10 minutes for a turn, and if a player is moving, he has to do it in ...

As far as I know, it suffices to announce an alliance so that all other players can see it. You can talk about it for hours on MSN, for example, but you have to make sure that your oppenents are informed about it as soon as the alliance starts.
