If you must use IE7, you may get IE7PRO , which will let you run Scripts (just like FF and Greasemonkey).
Then all you need to do is find and install a 'save password Script' 'sign in Script' or whatever..

I'm not sure I understand everything that you are saying but I just thought the whole point of fog of war was that you could see what was in the "line of sight" of your countries and nothing else. So i think instead of "?" in the gamelog it should say what country it is, IF it is within your line ...
