I really like the creativity that went into this tourney, and I'm a huge Palahniuk fan; the only constructive criticism that I'd offer for the tourney is that it seems a bit unbalanced that competitors get one chance to beat 5 players to advance to the final round, and then 3 chances to beat 1 ...

This is a good idea and would prevent all those times you wait 5 minutes just so you can do something in the last 30 seconds.

As I see it this is the biggest reason people want a change. IMO the eliminate time-out double turns idea would solve this in a much better way. ;)
