Re: SJW

SJW is a bad name for a genuiune pernicious phenomenon which needs a good name. I can remember when Gordon Brown used to use the phrase "social justice" a lot. And I hardly think of him as a snowflake. It used to refer to things like workers rights and the minimum wage.

"Political satire became obsolete when Henry Kissinger was awarded the Nobel peace prize."

This quote is apparently due to satirical songwriter Tom Lehrer.

Re: The Rights(or lack there of) of the Mentally Ill

There are probably many members of CC who have been diagnosed with or have symptoms of a serious mental health problem. In spite of the assumptions made throughout this thread, such people may have a low profile, may have 5 star ratings, may be contributing positively to the site. Such people may ...

Escalating sets was introduced as the official rules for the original American Risk. Currently the official rules for European Risk is something very close to the flat rate that we have. If u buy a Risk set in the UK, escalating will be mentioned only at the end of the rulebook under optional rules ...

Glad Great Ollie gets a mention. I had a phase of playing speedgames a lot. And at that time he used to run all sorts of games on all sorts of settings, all at the same time. He could give me a run for my money on classic sequential esc, whilst playing an arms race, an age of realms and a doodle ...

Re: What makes an honorable conqueror?

The strategy tips from SoC are for the basics on a certain type of setting. To really get to grips with those settings requires a lot more than just following the tips. I think within the standard settings there is a lot of room for originality and strategy. Some of the more specialist things that ...

Re: Sportsmanship vs stabbing your Allies

In a game of risk, the objective is to conquer the world. Honourable play means trying to acheive that game objective without cheating or spoiling the fun.

In the case of international relations, conquering the world is generaly regarded as a bit dishonourable in and of itself. The objective is to ...

Re: Sportsmanship vs stabbing your Allies

In a game where there can only be 1 winning side, for two parties to make common cause is in itself an attempt to subvert the initial premise of the game that each person must win by conquering all others. Such behaviour is to be seen in games where there is no possibility of creating an optimal ...
