Fifth Tournament Slot for Freemiums

Postby WorldCup4James on Tue Dec 14, 2010 11:14 pm

Case Closed. I really shouldn't be complaining. Not in the Holiday spirit.
Fifth Tournament Game Slot for Non-Premium Players

Concise description:
  • (I've searched for this and haven't been able to find it, but I'm sure it's been mentioned before.)
A fifth game slot for non-premium players to be used strictly for tournament games.

Specifics/Details:
  • I know I'm a freemium, and I'm really not doing this just to get an extra game slot; I'm much more into running tournaments on this site, and I always have an ounce of doubt of whether a freemium I invite to a game will actually join the game. An extra game slot reserved for tournaments certainly would help.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • This proposal shall increase game attendance for tournaments and reduce headaches for organizers and restore the trust in accepting freemiums into tournaments.

I'd say that the solution lies with freemium deciding to join tournaments responsibly. Just because they have that one slot open, that doesn't mean they're worries are cured if they join two, which will most likely still happen. The easiest way to make sure that you can play in your tournaments is to only sign up one or two at a time, and if you forget that you sign up, Subscribe to the Thread so you receive notifications on when more people sign up. By doing this, you'll know when the tournament is getting closer to starting and how to avoid being game locked. Also, if you can, buy premium! This will solve many more problems than just a freemiums lack of space, but buying premium also supports the site and gives you access to private games, speed games, and sending invitations to games. I hope you have more luck with keeping a slot open in future tournaments, good luck WorldCup4James!

CC already offers a fifth slot to freemiums for tournaments

to activate it you pay $25

Wanting to play in more tournaments is a perfect reason to buy a premium membership. There should never be extra games given to freemiums just to play in tournaments because then CC would lose a big basis for purchasing premium.

If a freemium wants to play a tournament, he or she will save a spot. In the SoC Standard Invitational going on right now, two of the players in the final game are freemiums. I agree that freemiums not saving a slot is a headache, and if a tournament accepts freemiums, that tournament better have a long list of reserves, but having more slots available is rightly one of the perks of premium.

One chess site I play doesn't even allow freemiums to join tournaments. Another one does, but a freemium has to use one of the allotted game slots.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense; giving more slots I suppose may only increase the number of tourneys freemiums join thereby running the risk that they can't join every single one. Accept my apologies, it was very rash to even complain considering I'm playing on the Internet's best Risk website without paying a cent. The only thing stopping me from getting Premium is that by playing so many games, I'd get bored eventually...but I'll try it one day.
