CC 512 0r 1024

Post by Sir. Ricco »

Well soundout9 posted his idea on “An Official Monthly CC Tournament” it got me think about a really big Official Tournament.

It would need 4 directors like:
Myself (Sir. Ricco)
Optimus Prime
soundout9
Aerial Attack
Gozar
spinwizard

We could call it CC 512 for the 512 people playing in it. It would be open to anybody and it would take major recruiting from the 4 directors.
It would be a classic bracket Tournament and proceed like this:
Round 1 – 512
Round 2 – 256
Round 3 – 128
Round 4 – 64
Round 5 – 32
Round 6 – 16
Round 7 – 8
Round 8 – 4
Round 9 – 2
Winner – 1

Well tell me if you like the idea or if it needs work and what we can do to improve the idea.

Well i would really love to still have an monthly tournament. And I probably will. I would help with this.

How about the 4 directors each get a 1/4 of the bracket. I imagine you want the bracket to look like this

could brake this tournament into the number of games completed just to get some sort of division in the number of players.

Would need a HUGE reserve list!

It's a good idea, problem is, you don't even want to think about trying it until we get the forum upgrade and you can send Mass PMs. Trust me on that one.

I'm sure there will be huge tournaments in the future, especially OFFICIAL ones as outlined by Lack. Develop the idea by all means, but you would need tons of help and the mass PMing with phpbb3 I would think.

I don't know. We did 720 between two of us, Optimus. 512 would be easier in theory.

How long was your reserve list?

Yeah.....but my name is Optimus Prime. :D

No, seriously, 512 would be doable, but you would have to do a ton of PM recruiting, very similar to the CCC Masters. I sent well over 5000 PMs for that tournament alone, and that was just to fill my two divisions which is 360 players. about 40 didn't show up and I had to use reserves to fill the rest, and even had to cut back by a couple of games. Something far harder to do in a bracket style tournament than in the type Gozar and I are running.

Lack would give you premium for 100 players so i wonder if you could get 5 years out of him then give it to top 5 or split it up top 5.

Just a note to consider: Sometime in the future the "granting premium as tournament rewards" system is going to get a more formalized and official revamp. Nothing major, and I'm sure you would still qualify, but just a note to consider.

I think that 100 deadbeats and i'm not sure if 1100 people even visit the tournaments thread. That would take MAJOR advertising and a MAJOR boost in people online per day. I say we just stick to 512

To make fancier with more restrictions and qualifications in order to obtain premium for tournaments.

Also, if you had 1024 players signed up, it will take you at least 5-6 weeks to get them I would guess. You would have to send "reminder" PMs to remind players that the tournament will be starting soon AND you will have.....about 75-80 no-shows at least would be my estimate. So you would need a decent sized reserve list.

I figure those numbers on the fact that a majority will be non-premiums and you are bound to have plenty of them that simply don't wind up with the slot after all.

The best way to fill a tournament this size will be to go through the scoreboard, and PM everyone.

I think i sent out 5-700 recruiting PMs for the Supremacy tournament to get to 264. Had only 4-5 no shows and have had I think 6 deadbeaters. It can be done that's for sure.

I started by PMing everyone I'd played recently, then I went to the tourney forum and PMed people who were already looking for tournaments, finally I started targeting active players. I like active players better than the scoreboard because you know the guys are actually currently playing.

I do like the idea, but I see two problems:

The PMing, already been discussed, doesn't need to be said again.

The other thing is how long it takes to fill. The longer it takes, the better the chance a player(s) will quit CC, or if they are non-premium, they might not have a spot open for a considerable amount of time. Time can be a big issue when it's a tournament asking for 512 players.
