(Small)-Speed Tournaments set up suggestion

Post by Warsteiner »

This is a suggestion for implenting a new game style, this is NOT a tournament to sign up for

Introduction

A small thought recently crossed my mind when thinking about the battle royales and the increase of the amount of players to eight. Wouldn't it be a lot of fun to play small tournaments all day instead of having to sign up for those in the forums?

Section 1 The actual suggestion

The idea is to be able to start small tournaments. This will for instance be 8 people opposing eachother 'heads up'. Everyone will have to face an opponent chosen at random and beat them to go to the second round. 4 1vs1's at first 2 1vs1's next 1x1 in the end. 3 games to play and the winner gets ALL the points of the rest. This tournament set up can be done for 6 player games too or anything else. (this would require the max to go above 8 though.) These tournaments will have to be Speed tournaments. However they can be done casual but I'm not sure yet how (might take long waiting time when the round is done)

Section 2 An example: What will the sign up look like?

NOTE: this is just an example, the game aspects (like fog freestyle etc.) can be anything.

Speed 1v1 Tournament
Standard
Freestyle
Escalating
Unlimited
Classic
No

That's right the sign up will look exactly like a normal games sign up! only the heading is changed to 'Speed tournament'

When the sign up is done the players are randomly mixed to oppose eachother and when winning they'll have a new game in 'awaiting players' when the other games end, their opponents will be randomly assigned to the new 'half final' games.

An example with 4 players for instance would be the same only then 8 or 16 players in totall to be able to sign up.

Section 3: What will the tournament look like?

Quarter Finals

PlayerA vs PlayerB
PlayerC vs PlayerD
PlayerE vs PlayerF
PlayerG vs PlayerH

Semi Finals

WinnerAB vs WinnerCD
WinnerEF vs WinnerGH

Final

This can be done in teams as well or in 4 player games everything is possible.

Section 4: Battle Royale

This idea can be used for battle royale's too. Advantages:

*Sign up more people for one BR
*Ability to start with more countries
*More strategy less luck

The Killing extra time will have to be removed in the BR's though and a maximum length of the games has to be decided.

What about creating this tournament as a new gamefeature?

It sounds cool

So just like Sit-n-Go tournaments on online poker.

A Sit-n-Go tournament can consist of a one table game or multi table game so not necessarily, but I know what you mean, 4 players with 1v1 + 1v1 and the two winners play for all the cash.

It is only 3 singles games and if it is played on a small map such as Doodle Earth the 3 games could be completed in an hour which to me doesn't seem that long.

in freestyle it's perfectly doable :)

Sequential will take longer of course. however seq 1vs1 is finished quick.

If we make it possible to do the idea with 4 player games as well (so 3 rounds of 4 player games) then it will have to be freestyle else it'll take too long that's correct. Well anything is possible :)

Yeah, could be done with any number of players in each game.

It's a wicked idea, really hope this gets implemented and soon - I would be hooked! :D

I'm not sure why they have to be speed at all. I'm sure it would make single elimination games easier on the tourny organizers (assuming all the same settings)

I didn't read it all through but the main thing is that people have tried to make Speed tournaments but they failed because of several reasons. I think that biggest problem was that people don't show up on time and games get dropped. Of course, if it's held with just a few people then it would work (like RT-maffias or sth, then it can be done). But why don't you just organise it, Warsteiner?

there's a difference between organising a speed tournament and this suggestion ;) a big one to be frank. This wouldnt go thru the forums but just have the ability to join thru the normal game finder things. Read post #1 :)
