Actually as far as I know it's color in Latin. So the English stole color from Latin and made it colour. The Americans then stole it from the English and reverted it back to color.
I must admit that when using English I prefer the word colour though.

Actually, Dec is only partially wrong since you do call Magenta Pink (??!!)

I wasn't calling into question the fact that Magenta is called Pink...
But M is to big a letter to be used on the codes - as we don't use a fixed width font...
