Should you honor a truce when you can end the game?

Post by Robinette »

I would like to know what the CC community feels is the way to play a move when you have a border truce or alliance and find yourself in a position to sweep the board in a single turn and eliminate all the other players.

And if you do choose to sweep the board, would a negative feedback for the treaty violation be an over-reaction, or an appropriate response?

Dang it... I shoulda thought of that.

Well, if you don't make border truces, alliances, treatys, agreements, etc., then this situation would never happen to you. But IF YOU DID make such an agreement......................

What would be your answer?

just pm the person and explain the move you want to make. if they don't care then go for it.

This looks awfully familiar...

Anyway, if you win in that one turn I don't see a problem.

I think I did this once, and felt like a total bum. A real heel, man. I managed to use my talk-fu to twist the logic and quell the rage (after all, the whole POINT of making alliances is that you can twist the logic and get out of them, so I felt) but that didn't change the guilt I felt.

Alliances are going to be broken and if you are in one with someone that doesnt turn traitor on you then you should be insulted. He figures youre no threat at all and he can take you out after you help him knock out everyone else. I dont take much part in alliances, but when I do i make sure i stab my buddy in the back as quick as I can. Thats respect.

If you and your allied force are the only ones remaining, then all alliances are null and void.

It would be dishonorable to break a truce before that occurred (or before the agreed-upon truce time had expired)

you should make rules to your truces. like: it will end after 5 rounds, or it ends when no one else is left, or stuff like that.

Very wise words... as you live in Japan, I wonder if you are familiar with the ancient wisdom of the HAGAKURE, written by the Samurai Yamamoto Tsunetonmo (1659 - 1719).

When Lord Takanobu was at the Battle of Bungo, a messenger came from the enemy camp bearing sake and food.
..........Takanobu wanted to partake of this quickly,
....................but the men at his side stopped him, saying,
.............................."Presents from the enemy are likely to be poisoned..........This is not something that a general should eat."

Takanobu heard them out,
..........but then he said,
...................."Even if it is poisoned, how much of an effect would that have on things?
..............................Call the messenger here!"

He then broke open the barrel right in front of the messenger,
..........drank three large cups of sake,
....................offered the messenger one too,
..............................gave him a reply,
........................................and sent him back to his camp.

(feel...the.....deep silence.....while the mind.....considers.....such profound.....thoughts.... . and how they apply... 300 years later...to our game of Risk).

But then we shake it off and remember the much more simple and primitive words of Asakura Norikage (Soteki) (1474-1552)....
....................."The warrior doesn't care if he's called a beast or a dog; the main thing is winning." :x

Ofcourse you have to break the alliance...
what should you do if you didn't? sit and watch the game go on for ever?
I say, go for the other opponents first, but if you can win the game take them all down.
that is what this game is about.

If you make rules for the alliance you shouldn't break them(untill you can win)
I shouldn't give a player negative for winning the game..
and I assume they wouldn't give me either.

As i noted in the topic alliance's.

You should agree to each other how to exit a treaty.
If your truly so genius that you can take world domination, then your also clever to see when the alliance should be respectfully terminated, with at least two turn advanced warning be fore attacking ech other.
Doing otherwise is decieving, will cost your reputation, honour and respect.

And no it wont stop with a neg. feedback for me!
I will make that fact known and maby open a forum to display and lynch the traitor.

So be warned, if you cant keep an agreement then dont make them, or it break's you eventualy!

Another topic for great discussion; please check the poll "LUCK" vs strategy vote and post your insight or react on others, have fun and stay fair!
