Random placement? or NOT?

Post by Pedronicus »

after playing all 22 maps all at once

it's become clear to me that intial deployment placement is key.

if we could all come up with a totaly neutral deployment plan - it could be another option...... in the game start log.

No more people half holding an easy to defend territory at the start. I know its not true random risk - but its an option we could add to this site. :-k

I think it's 1/2 deployment and 1/2 skill. And since truly random can and does often favor players, it doesn't always seem fair. How about a deployment script where only up to x% of your countries can border each other?

And next we will have predetermined dice rolls. When attacking from country A to country B you automaticly get a dice roll of 643 and the defender gets a roll of 44.

Why even play the game?

why not make it like real risk and take turns claiming territories, or make it possible to trade territories (cards)

You say real Risk. There are so many variations. We would shuffle the cards and then deal them out. And I don't remember ever trading territories.

Wouldn't taking turns claiming territories take forever?Remember some people only play once a day.

It would take a long time, since there are so many CCer from Europe, and I think a few Africans and Asians. Not to mention Aussies, Kiwis, South Americans.... Canadians, people from Indiana, penguins ansd scientists in Antarctica. So anyways, it would take a long time if we were to take each terrritory in every turn, and not everyone is premium, some people have to wait for games to end before starting a new one.

This will most likely complicate stuff and have no real purpose.

Yeah, I disagree with the deployment of your own armies, but wicked made a good suggestion, where only so many territories can border each other.

I think that sometimes the deployment is so unfair that its impossible for someone to win from the start, but the same can be said about the dice, and the cards as well.
Most of the time it seems perfectly random however, and while I have some bad games, I have equal amounts of good games.

I know its the biggest load of bollox that I've posted (And we all know that I've had my fair share of posting shit posts over the months) but - after playing all maps at the same time - a pattern soon appeared.

If I was to play no cards - a fairer initial deployment would be very useful.

It was just a thought.

its not a bad idea i just think it would take much longer and more of a hassel for the players that dont play more than 1 or 2 times a day

I hear you there.. seems almost every no cards game I play, I get bad deployment and bad dice.. and its like you said during those Ireland games.. dont worry they are probably getting just as bad of dice.. oh wait, never mind.

I actually think initial deployment accounts for little difference in games I've played or watched. I've gotten some good deployments and some terrible deployments but I think anything is playable. I have never seen someone start from a position where they can't win. (perhaps if a player started with a continent and the others were all spread out, but I've never seen anyone start with a whole continent.)

I have seen it happen 3 times now, only on the classic map and the discworld map. These people do not always win though. Usually it makes them a bigger target.

I once started with a small continent on the Asia map...and indeed, just like AK said...I was nearly wiped out at the beginning.

I've only seen someone win starting with a continent once.. i've seen it happen 4 or 5 times... the time they won was in a 4 person team game.. only once have I beat someone who started with a continent in a 4 person team game and that was the hardest win ever.
