[22-Oct-2006] Staffing changes, Forum Guidelines and FAQ

Post by lackattack »

There may not be a lot of programming in this update, but it has important improvements in terms of service and information...

Staffing Changes
After serving as a most excellent Community Manager for 5 and 1/2 months (much of Conquer Club's existence!) Twill has decided to pass the torch. AndyDufresne is our new Zoo Keeper (same duties as CM, but the title was changes to better reflect the position). I feel confident that Andy will do a terrific job and help keep our club happy and healthy as the population grows. Now don't worry, Twill isn't leaving us - he'll continue to serve as Moderator and for that matter Andy will continue as Foundry Foreman. Also of note, moz976 has some new responsibilities; he'll be the primary moderator for the Suggestions & Bug Reports forum and will be handling contacts directed to the Technical Support and Game Problems department. So congrats and a big thank you too all three!

Forum Guidelines
Twill has provided us with forum guidelines (accessible from the Forum index page). Please review them before you post in the forum. Should you commit sin in the forum these guidelines will serve as a bible for the moderators to spank you with.

Frequently Asked Questions
Moz976 and AndyDufresne put together an expanded FAQ. They did a great job and I'm sure people will find it very helpful. Tr0y provided the code to make the questions collapse. If your mouse cursor looks funny when you hover over the links, hit refresh (f5) to force your browser to update the entire page.

Country Flags
These suckers are showing on your profile and on the scoreboard. How do we know where you live? I got the MaxMind GeoIP database (with weekly updates). It's 99% accurate. We are missing a couple flags, but I'll get them all eventually.

Neutral Feedback
For those times when it's not positive and not negative... now you can leave neutral feedback that does not affect the feedback score.

Rules Page
The text has been updated. Please read.

Wow, the country flags are sweet and could be very helpful for putting real time games together. Good stuff!

I'd agree with you on that, plus please change the colour of the 'Please read the forum guidelines before posting!' bit. It looks bloody awful.

Like the flags, not so much the colour of the guideline thingy. I mean sure it sticks out, but a little too much...

Also I hope the guidelines won't be taken too seriously. They are guidelines and not steadfast rules I hope.

Not to sure about the "anti-religious" guideline. Any anti-religious post always comes after a overtly religious one. If we want people not to be offended in regards to thier religion maybe the rule should be no religious posts at all; for or against! I don't see why an athiest should keep their mouth shut when the bible-bashers can say what they like.

I'm sure the moderators have some leeway to use their judgement.

Guidlines

I kind of agree that a Bible shouldn't be a license to bash people who don't agree with you, but in general, it seems that the anti-religious posts tend to be much more virulent.

Can flags be in games as well so we can see the nationalities of all players at a glance?

How beastly, I totally came up with this idea. I win.
I was a major back when 1600 was major. Now that I'm back, I get to easily win a bunch of games to get my rank. Thank the 'tards here who suck at this game.
