Changes:
  • Borders on Berlin were thinned
  • Some borders were changed
  • Added River within Berlin
  • Added package icons in Berlin

hmm... cold war berlin with the four allied power sectors... this is such a good idea, I don't know why I didn't think of it. ;)

It's known as Berlin 1961, done by oaktown, long-since Quenched and in play. It is an exact duplicate of the map you propose. I appreciate your enthusiasm for making maps, but PLEASE do some background research on the site before posting every idea you think of in a new topic. Better yet, stick the idea in the New Map Ideas thread.

Actually this is different, that was the Berlin wall, If you had done your homework and looked up the history the blockade came first, it was the soviets cutting off the supply lines to which the allied powers started the airlift. Once the USSR figured the blockade was worthless they ended the blockade and built the wall, thus encasing the allied side of Berlin but now allowing supplies to be shipped by land. They are similar but different. The big difference between the two maps is that the one based on the wall (Berlin 1961) concentrates on Berlin exclusively, this map includes all of Germany as the airlift planes were flown from the allied side of Germany. Just a tip, next time you want to noob bash actually read the post and learn some history  :P

water_foul is right - in the Berlin thread we were very specific about how to set up the map to make it 1961, not 1948. Sorry I made the initial comment... I guess the wink didn't keep others from bashing your map.

I could totally get behind an airlift map, and by expanding to include west Germany this would play quite differently from the current Berlin map. Run with it, water_foul, and see what you can make of this idea.

I actually took a German map and overlayed the flags over the territories that the countries "owned" but I think I will make them solid colors next time. Have any other ideas instead of allowing a "1 way border" from the allied side to their respective Berlin areas?

Well, with the original mapmaker's blessing, I am remiss to continue to argue the point.

I must admit water, i like this idea more than any others of yours =D>

heres my thoughts on what it could use

1) I dont care for the solid white color, could you do a different color? or a texture? or maybe even a picture?
2) The flags are a nice touch
3) I like the zoomed in effect, but maybe put it into a box in which it also shows the surrounding territories? just so people know who can attack it
4) Also, on that note, it seems that if u hold the territory the zoomed in area is in, then you can attack all of the outside of the zoomed in territory, maybe make that big red territory that the zoomed in is in into a couple littler ones?
5) I like how u have the Germany (left) and Berlin (Below) thing, it makes it clearer
6) Some of the territs are to small to fit names/army numbers in for the zoomed in area, and are really pixely (the border lines)

hopefully more later :D

edit: ignore 4, i just read that the plane icons can attack berlin

I was planning on doing this in the final version :)

I'll see what I can do, I actually took the political map of Germany but I can split it myself

My initial reaction was that this map is too similar to Oaktown's which is already in play (and one of my favourites).

My second thought was that I can't see why anyone would go for any Berlin territories, as I think the planes are too powerful - perhaps you could have them link to specific 'airlift' territories (ie the same as in the existing Berlin map). Then this map would complement the exisiting one??

This is exactly the kind of response that keeps me from coming to the foundry more often.

make barbed wire as impassable instead of the blue lines

the idea is good btw. i like it.

btw, make the legend a bit smaller and better looking too, that way you might as well have more room to resize berlin for example so you can place territory names inside the territories. and maybe add some more blokkades between eastern and western germany.

as for the gameplay:

since your map points on the was for berlin and supplying was one of the biggest isues back then, maybe work it out a little bit more even, maybe some neat tricks with bonusses, like (i am not gunna read tons of history books to check if anything is incorrect) i think both germany and russia had pretty much railroads in that time, and although some of them might have been destroyed or became highly damaged at least, i think a good deal of them might still be usefull for transporting troops and supply, so what if you make several railroads, or railway stations between supllying territories (like on the border of both western (allied control) and eastern germany (russian control) and give some bonus for holding all the 'control points' for the supply lines, but maybe a NEGATIVE bonus if someone else 'intercepts' your suplly line, like if you only hold the first and the last control point (station, whatsoever) of the railraod and an enemy has the middle one, he 'steals' or 'destroys' your suplies, resulting in a negative bonus, because you lost your supplies.

or something like that.

just my 2 cents

Two problems with the impassables:
1) Britain has an island with no borders.
2) The USSR has a territory that is isolated and a huge distance from the rest of its Berlin territory.
