Battle of the N00bs [WINNER: jim.rifle]

hey all this is my first tournament so bear with me
the basic concept of this is to make a tournament for the new people, so if you are new OR you are a cook (at time of joining this tournament) OR you know someone who is fits either of those criterions come and join, it will help you get a feel for conquer club.
I am looking for 16 people and the games will look like this:

Classic map (what you get when you buy the board game)
Sequential game (one person at a time)
1 v 1 (self explanatory)
Standard cards (a set of reds = 4, blues = 6, green = 8, red+blue+green=10)
unlimited forts (you can fortify as many times as you want as long as the two countries are connected by your countries)
No fog of war (in fog or war you cant see (1) who owns each country and (2) how many troops are there UNLESS you own it or it borders your countries)

Question for a friend, how new is new? As in, what's the cut-off for length of time since joining?

hey i need ur opinion on something, should i extend the req to join from just being a ? to joining CC at anytime in 2008 or not?
Pros: will include new ppl who just played games for the sake of playing games
Cons: may defeat the purpose by putting extremely good players against the N00bs

I'd suggest you to raise the point maximum... maybe let in the rank that is after cooks (or 2 ranks after that)? And maybe put some game maximum to keep away those who have played many games and are higher ranks?

I think I would put in just a point level max. Something in the 1100 range is about right.
I'm not certain you'll get a whole lot of ? players to find their way to the forums. Typically new players will play several pick up games before finding the forums meaning that unless they lose in a hurry they're not going to find the tourney in time to qualify.

It shouldn't be anyone who joined this year. There are a lot of people who are pretty good with high ranks who joined this year. It should be based on rank. ?, cooks and the like. The problem is getting cooks and noobs to join a tourney presents a challenge all in itself.

Quick question, more about the game in general than about this specific tournament: How exactly does getting those cards work? Like, is just that you randomly get a number handed out to you, or that it depends on how many countries you attacked that turn, or maybe that each country has it's own color and you get the color of the last country attacked?

In the original board game cards were drawn at random, so it should be the same here, it wouldn't make sense any other way.
