my hair was blonde as a nipper, but now light brown(when i don't whack a load of gel on it). it grows thick and fast.

Not really, but then again my Father has had a bald spot since he was 30.

It is probably the chlorine (which is a type of bleach) bleaching your hair and turning it a blonde.
